Something I have been avoiding.
I tell you guys that I CAN draw but don't. Why? I don't really enjoy it. Why? Because my professor Ms. Grimes is still in my head telling me I will never be a good artist. Yesterday, @Heather van Doorn was here IRL during Open Studio here in Wisconsin and I decided I should take my own advice. Push past my fear of fucking it up and just do it. After all, Heather is a really cool cat and isn't judgy. She is super positive, open and just all around cool. So I drew her. It's the first time I have tried any figure drawing in 32 years. Guess what?? It FELT good! I got lost in it. I know it's not right but that is perfectly ok. The FEELING is what I was after, not the outcome. It was the first time I have done something for ME in a while.

@Karen Mack oh boy do I resonate with that statement! The path less traveled. I have ALWAYS been that person. I am not a lemming.

@Sue Schweickert this is beautiful! Are you sure it's charcoal? When I zoom in I get the feeling that it is pen and ink? I DID find one piece that matched Gary S. Bennett. That box logo signature is unmistakable. He did not make it big.
First Layer +
@Michelle Cyr You were right! I finished this first layer plus additional yellow highlights all in one sitting! I didn't check the time. I'm guessing between 1.5 and 2 hours. Time fell away. I am rather pleased with the result. My bee isn't quite what I'd like. But he is there! I made a creative choice to underlie the outer ring as well as the inner ring (with burnt sienna). @LM Sharron I forgot you asked about that until after I did it! I wanted more of that color. My opinion is mixed on whether or not that worked. Hmmm, now that I attached the picture here, maybe it did work after all. I put too much of the "dark" colors while mixing. This is why I have so much paint on my palette. I am through my white and my yellow. I am very glad I ordered paints this week. Anyhow, I celebrated the 4th with oil painting. 😁 And I will set up my 1 on 1!!

@Karen Mack when the puzzle pieces come together, it really makes things amazing. This is why it is so hard to truly judge a painting before it's complete. When we talk about this tomorrow, we will have great things to talk about. I can not wait! I am so excited!

@Chan Smith oh now that is really interesting. I have never ridden on a train but now that I think about it -I can totally understand it. 27 hours - where were you traveling to and from? This sounds very interesting.
