Organizing "se"
Anyone have any tips on when to use "se" as in "se me da"? Sometimes I use it right and other times no. Thanks so much.

Great question, Dan — this is one of the most confusing parts of Spanish 🙌 In “se me da”, the “se” isn’t reflexive. It’s part of a structure we use when something happens to someone. Think of it like this: 👉 “Se me da bien el español.” Literally: “Spanish gives itself to me well.” Natural meaning: “I’m good at Spanish.” Structure: Se + indirect object (me/te/le/nos/les) + verb Examples: • Se me olvidó = I forgot (literally: it forgot itself to me) • Se me perdió = I lost it • Se me da bien cocinar = I’m good at cooking 💡 Tip: If it sounds like something “happened to you” rather than something you actively did, Spanish often uses this structure. Don’t stress — even advanced learners mix this up. Keep noticing it and it’ll start to feel natural. If you ever have any questions, ask away don’t hesitate!
