Elfsys problems
It looks like I have a garden task already this year. I have to replace the water pump in mt Elfsys. That is my hydroponic garden I use to start my plants in. Now at 81 I have to figure out how to safely get down on the floor to do that, and then , get back on my feet.. lol

@Carolyn Martin thats awesome.
hello from zone 8a
Looking forward to helpful tips from those in Georgia. Living in basement apt, can only grow in containers/grow bags. Hoping and praying for success with tomatoes this year. Hoping to harvest my carrots and beets in a few weeks.

oh good luck with your tomatoes, i have always grown them in containers and yes grow bags. there are many things you could plant that are made for patio gardens. i would look for bush varieties. i look forward to seeing what all you grow.

Plants That Bounce Back Fast After Winter (Even If They Look Rough Right Now)
If a few of your plants look a littleโ€ฆ tiredโ€ฆ That doesnโ€™t mean theyโ€™re done. Some plants are incredible at bouncing back once light increases and watering adjusts. They may look rough in February, but give them a few weeks, and they surprise you. ๐ŸŒฟ ๐“๐ก๐ž ๐๐ž๐ฌ๐ญ ๐–๐ข๐ง๐ญ๐ž๐ซ ๐‚๐จ๐ฆ๐ž๐›๐š๐œ๐ค ๐๐ฅ๐š๐ง๐ญ๐ฌ These are your โ€œdonโ€™t give up yetโ€ plants: ๐๐จ๐ญ๐ก๐จ๐ฌ * Can lose leaves and still rebound * New growth appears quickly once light improves ๐๐ž๐š๐œ๐ž ๐‹๐ข๐ฅ๐ฒ * Dramatic droopers * Often push strong new leaves in early spring ๐’๐ฉ๐ข๐๐ž๐ซ ๐๐ฅ๐š๐ง๐ญ * Tolerates dry air surprisingly well * Sends fresh shoots once days lengthen ๐๐ก๐ข๐ฅ๐จ๐๐ž๐ง๐๐ซ๐จ๐ง * Slow in winter, steady in spring * Pruning encourages bushier recovery ๐ŸŒฑ ๐’๐ข๐ ๐ง๐ฌ ๐š ๐๐ฅ๐š๐ง๐ญ ๐ˆ๐ฌ ๐€๐›๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ ๐ญ๐จ ๐๐จ๐ฎ๐ง๐œ๐ž ๐๐š๐œ๐ค Look for: * Tiny growth buds * Firmer stems * Slower yellowing * Soil drying slightly faster Recovery starts before you see major change. ๐Ÿ’š ๐–๐ก๐š๐ญ ๐‡๐ž๐ฅ๐ฉ๐ฌ ๐๐ฅ๐š๐ง๐ญ๐ฌ ๐‘๐ž๐œ๐จ๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ ๐…๐š๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐ซ * Improve light gradually * Trim damaged leaves * Adjust watering (not moreโ€”smarter) * Be patient for 2โ€“4 weeks Most winter stress isnโ€™t permanent. Plants that look rough right now often surprise you the most. ๐ŸŒฟWhy You Keep Getting Weeds in Containers (Even When Youโ€™re Doing Everything Right)
Letโ€™s talk about something that a lot of gardeners quietly wonderโ€ฆ ๐Ÿ‘‰ โ€œWhy do I STILL have weedsโ€ฆ even though Iโ€™m doing everything right?โ€ Youโ€™re using good soil. Youโ€™re watering carefully. Youโ€™re paying attention. And yetโ€ฆ ๐ŸŒฑ There they are again. Like they never got the memo. Hereโ€™s the truth most people donโ€™t talk about: ๐–๐ž๐ž๐๐ฌ ๐ข๐ง ๐œ๐จ๐ง๐ญ๐š๐ข๐ง๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ ๐š๐ซ๐ž ๐œ๐จ๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ž๐ญ๐ž๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐ง๐จ๐ซ๐ฆ๐š๐ฅ. Yep. Even for experienced gardeners. Letโ€™s break down why they keep showing up ๐Ÿ‘‡ ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ ๐Ÿ. ๐–๐ž๐ž๐ ๐’๐ž๐ž๐๐ฌ ๐“๐ซ๐š๐ฏ๐ž๐ฅ (๐Œ๐จ๐ซ๐ž ๐“๐ก๐š๐ง ๐˜๐จ๐ฎ ๐“๐ก๐ข๐ง๐ค) Weed seeds are basically tiny hitchhikers. They come in through: * Wind ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ * Birds ๐Ÿฆ * Pets ๐Ÿพ * Your clothes and shoes ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ * Even nearby pots ๐Ÿ‘‰ That means even a โ€œperfectโ€ container can get surprise visitors ๐Ÿชด ๐Ÿ. ๐“๐ก๐ž๐ฒ ๐‚๐š๐ง ๐๐ž ๐‡๐ข๐๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ข๐ง ๐˜๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐’๐จ๐ข๐ฅ Even high-quality soil can occasionally contain: * Dormant weed seeds * Tiny root fragments Especially if you: * Reuse soil * Add compost * Mix in garden soil ๐Ÿ‘‰ Theyโ€™re just waiting for the right moment to pop up ๐ŸŒง๏ธ ๐Ÿ‘. ๐–๐š๐ญ๐ž๐ซ + ๐’๐ฎ๐ง = ๐๐ž๐ซ๐Ÿ๐ž๐œ๐ญ ๐†๐ซ๐จ๐ฐ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐‚๐จ๐ง๐๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐ฌ Guess what your plants love? โœ” Moist soil โœ” Warmth โœ” Sunlight Guess what weeds love? โ€ฆsame exact thing ๐Ÿ˜„ ๐Ÿ‘‰ When you create a great environment for your plants, youโ€™re also creating one for weeds ๐ŸŒฑ ๐Ÿ’. ๐๐š๐ซ๐ž ๐’๐จ๐ข๐ฅ ๐ˆ๐ฌ ๐š๐ง ๐Ž๐ฉ๐ž๐ง ๐ˆ๐ง๐ฏ๐ข๐ญ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง If your container has exposed soil, nature sees that as: ๐Ÿ‘‰ โ€œAvailable real estate!โ€ Weeds are programmed to fill empty space quickly. ๐Ÿ‘‰ Itโ€™s not a failureโ€”itโ€™s nature doing its job โณ ๐Ÿ“. ๐“๐ข๐ฆ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ˆ๐ฌ ๐„๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ๐ฒ๐ญ๐ก๐ข๐ง๐  Sometimes weeds seem to appear overnightโ€ฆ But in reality: * Theyโ€™ve been germinating quietly * You just didnโ€™t see them yet Then suddenlyโ€ฆ ๐ŸŒฑ โ€œHello! We live here now!โ€ ๐ŸŒผ ๐’๐จ ๐–๐ก๐š๐ญ ๐ƒ๐จ๐ž๐ฌ ๐“๐ก๐ข๐ฌ ๐Œ๐ž๐š๐ง ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ ๐˜๐จ๐ฎ? It means this: ๐Ÿ‘‰ Youโ€™re NOT doing anything wrong ๐Ÿ‘‰ Youโ€™re NOT โ€œbad at gardeningโ€ ๐Ÿ‘‰ Youโ€™re dealing with something every gardener deals with Even the ones who make it look effortless ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐ŸŒฟ ๐€ ๐๐ž๐ญ๐ญ๐ž๐ซ ๐†๐จ๐š๐ฅ ๐ญ๐จ ๐€๐ข๐ฆ ๐…๐จ๐ซ Instead of trying to have zero weeds everโ€ฆ Try this: โœ” Fewer weeds over time โœ” Easier removal โœ” Healthier soil that works with you
