Referral are GOLD. The prospect calls...they are ready! It's the best. One of the best ways to gain a steady stream of referrals is by connecting with a local tax pro. Start by searching locally, then expand out. Strive to compile a list of 100 tax pro's. Ideally you are only looking for 2-3 tax professionals for a steady stream of bookkeeping referrals. Begin by using the attached '10 Tax Write-Off's You Need to Know NOW', use Canva (canva.com) to customize it with your branding - and of course ALWAYS add your contact information and calendar. Now reachout to those tax pro's. Here's what to say; Hey XXNAMEXX - I'm getting ready to send the attached to my database and I wanted to know if you are looking for client referrals. Clients are regularly asking me who I can recommend for taxes and I'd love to give them your information and make the introduction. Of course if you have any clients that need assistance with their books I'd be happy to be of service. -Your Name -Your Company Information -Your Calendar Link

My first client (of 1 month) just closed his business today and just told me, he has already closed his QBO account as well so it sounds like he doesn't want me to close his books out. Per our contract I would still charge him for February since he just told me today, which would go out on the 1st (Sunday). It's only $100 and I know legally I can charge him, but I don't know if I should just cut my losses and let him off the hook for Feb to be kind since he had to close his business. Anyone have any thoughts on how to proceed? @Melissa Broughton

Yes I would charge. Your contract should require 30 days notice and it's important top follow the same process for all clients. So yes I would charge.
