If the person wasn’t there, you’d leave your card behind… and sometimes the way it was folded added extra meaning. • A turned-down corner could show you delivered it personally • Some folds showed the visit was meant for the whole household • “P.P.C.” meant pour prendre congé… basically, “goodbye, I’m leaving town” The funny part? Would you bring this rule back... and would you actually wear a little hat to lunch today? 👒 Here’s an etiquette rule that has almost completely disappeared for women... when you should and shouldn’t remove your hat. 👒 Traditionally, a woman could actually keep her dress hat on indoors in many situations, including restaurants, luncheons, weddings and church. Her hat was considered part of her complete outfit, not simply outerwear. BUT there was an important difference. A true fashion hat could stay on, while practical hats like rain hats, winter hats and sporting caps were removed indoors. And once you were in your own home, that beautiful little hat generally came off too. This is why you’ll see so many old photographs of beautifully dressed women sitting at restaurant tables in full dresses, gloves and hats.
