@David Kay Page of Swords The Page of Swords is the watcher: alert, curious, quick-minded, sometimes a little suspicious. In dog training, this is the dog who notices everything: the tiniest sound, the smallest movement, the shift in the air. It’s also the guardian learning to observe without panicking. Incantation: I notice without spiraling, and I turn awareness into wisdom. Bond Weaving Tag: The Call What your dog might be saying - I'm scanning because I don't know what is safe yet. - I'm trying to gather information. - Help me learn what matters and what doesn't. What you might be bringing - Hyper-awareness (sometimes edging into worry) - The urge to correct looking or alertness - A desire to build neutrality and confidence Nervous system note: Scanning is often a sign of uncertainty. The goal isn't to stop your dog from noticing, it’s to teach them how to notice and return. 10-minute game/spell: The Watcher’s Lesson (Notice Return) - Choose a low-to-medium stimulus place (front yard, quiet park edge). - For 10 minutes: - let your dog look at the world - the moment they look at a thing, mark and treat - then toss a treat behind them to invite a reset - If your dog gets stuck staring, add distance immediately. - Sprinkle in 2-3 voluntary check-ins: - reward any glance back at you - keep your body soft and quiet - End with a decompression sniff. Journal prompt - What does my dog notice first? What do I notice first? - How can I practice awareness that feels like information, not alarm?
