Salam! I'm from Canada! 🇨🇦 I want to learn Islam from women and engage with female scholarship, which is so often undermined in our community especially when they challenge, ask different questions, and uncover alternative possibilities that are unconventional. I want to understand the interpretations that women offer and also re-examine the male-dominated interpretations that have contributed to domestic abuse and sexual assault in our communities. I'm exhausted from constantly pushing myself to fit into these male-centered religious spaces that were designed exclusively for men, with no real consideration for women. Women are treated as an afterthought. We're pushed into separate masjid rooms where our voices aren't heard if we are not pushed away from the masjid entirely. That's why I truly value spaces built by and for women and am so grateful for this space where i feel included. Jzk.
