Deshi proverb Bideshi Meaning.
I have been thinking of doing this for a long time—it's translating some of my favorite proverbs from my own country into English. 'Deshi means 'own country related or national', and 'Bideshi' literally means' foreign country related'. 🤡 The 1st victim of my bad translation is- "সঙ্গ দোষে, লোহা ভাসে।" Literal translation- Iron floats due to partners. 💀 So it basically means, your personality depends on who you hang out with. Just as iron usually doesn't float but when it's together with a wood or something floatable, it suddenly has the ability to float and forgets its usual traits. That's how humans are too, they adapt their personality and behavior according to their friends and partners. This proverb is usually used in a negative sense. For instance, when someone starts smoking because of their friend's influence, that's when auntys can say this proverb.🙂 But to be honest, it has a deeper lesson. Humans will to blend in are strong. We like hanging out with people of the same mindsets yet also take their influence in. If you hang out with people who have a strong mindset, passion, and knowledge, your brain will naturally learn to be on the same level of mindset, passion, and knowledge as them. Why? Because you want to adapt. You want to blend in. But when you hang out with those who waste time doing nothing, don't have a good moral compass, and are just unmotivated with life, you'll become one soon. It's a 50-50 chance imo. It's whether you will influence them in a good way or you'll be influenced by their frantic behavior. Friends make a big part of your learning environment. So, choose them wisely. p.s. I am not trying to offend anyone or anyone's friends. This is completely based on my OWN opinion and the proverb. Lemme know if I should post more of these and if you have another opinion. Fun fact: this proverb actually has an opposite sibling, "If one's good, then everything's good". There's basically a fight over which one is correct. I think both are. 🤡
