Really wild that my husband’s non- Christian friend called him up to talk about the Andrew Wilson interview (and had a very favorable impression). I rarely understand song lyrics or want to. I like when they suggest something that allows you to read into it and just creates a feeling. My least favorite kind is the very straight forward journal entry type lyrics from women pop songs. Why would I want to sing someone else’s regular thoughts like a mantra?

Happy New Year! Christ is born! I really enjoyed this discussion. I appreciated how Christina brought up redirecting our mind to the Orthodox hierarchy of values and the eternal when we are tempted to too much regret and sadness over our circumstances. I remember Mother Siluana saying something along similar lines in a conversation with Fr. Turbo related to women who feel despair over not having children, and I find those reminders very helpful and necessary. As for not watching movies with dark or sinful content, that’s a tough one for people in the arts. The history of the arts is an ongoing conversation, and to be able to contribute meaningfully it really helps familiar with what came before… the tradition of that field. I’m interested in how Orthodox can study and teach subjects like film especially at a university level to prepare artists to make films that connect with people in our culture. I’ve been loving the interviews Yelena Popovich has been giving, and how she describes her calling. It’s so encouraging.

Guys, I don’t want to be the one to say this… but the shape/silhouette on the left looks like… something not quite appropriate. I asked my husband and he saw the same thing. Otherwise it’s a really cool design. (I’m saying this because when I work on my art I can get lost in the details, and I find it helpful when people let me know how it comes across).
