Quelling concerns about RP in fall
I spoke to Joey at Westinghouse today about doing the week of testing and he said that they may end up starting early in June because they have a lot of people in the queue this year. So they’re potentially doing June, July, and August. I asked him if it was going to be hard to place that many people in the fall if they all passed and were jr RP at the same time and he said that they usually have a 50-75 person attrition rate due to the RPs taking permanent positions either with the plants they’re working at or with the Department of Energy, so he wasn’t worried at all. This was something that I’ve been worried about so just thought I’d share in case anyone else was feeling the same as me.

That depends on when you enroll in the Fun 1. My timeline was 30 days for fun 1 completion (that’s a standard) and then 28 days of extra time before the Fun 1 on my own. I unfortunately had less 30 days for NISPs. But that’s just my experience with how the fun1 and NISP tests were scheduled based on when I started on 11/8/2025. I took fun 1 on Jan 6 and had to go for NISPs Feb 2-6. I am 100% new and fully self studied so I spent every extra moment studying when I wasn’t working. It is was a lot.

@Adam Steinmann for this moment just this one. I am waiting to hear back from Joey about jobs after this one. Since this is my first outage season ever I’m not 100% sure how it works. As I learn more I can share more.
Where are you at?
Just wondering where everyone is at in their Timeline... Sent a request for training to WH, got a response in 24 days. Completed the e-courses on the 29th day. Currently waiting for the Comprehensive online test at 3 days since reaching out again. Guessing my next steps are to pass this and scheduling the Fun1? I've gone through everything @Michael Williams has posted here and on Reddit. I'm 4-5 passes through the official materials and 1-2 passes through other related from online resources. Aiming to go straight into RP and just waiting on the timeline that nuclear apparently moves at. What's been your experience?

Next week is the week of task qualifications for those that passed the Fun 1 and can make it. Most likely you will have to wait until summer to take the Fun 1 proctored exam and then get a spot in the next task week. The last exam slots were about a month ago. With outage season upon us I doubt the training coordinator is doing a Fun 1 exams soon. I also am not thrilled with the rate of communication but I know they all have lots on their plates so I try to be as patient as possible. Getting ahold of recruiters is worse than what you are dealing with now so prepare yourself for that. (Or at least that has been my experience)
Jr RP Task Qualifications Training
After taking the first exam I was given access to begin studying for the second set of courses. I have emailed the training contact at WH and haven’t gotten a response. Anyone in here completed the Jr. RP program through WH recently?? I have a couple questions and would love to know if anyone has the answer - 1. Are we expected to complete the course work for the second set of courses BEFORE the 1 week training? Quizzes and all? 2. Have you received any info from WH with further details about the training? Thanks in advance!

@Michael Cheng that is weird, why study for the second half if you didn’t test for the first half. Keep emailing her I guess is our only option.
What fields have you come from?
This industry seems to cast a wide net and gather people from drastically different backgrounds. I've worked with people who worked as professional chefs, truck drivers, engineers, diesel mechanics, and just about any of the trades I can think of. I'm curious where everyone here is coming from and what they've experienced in their careers before looking to nuclear. So what has your path looked like so far?

My last career was a technology trainer for a large school district in TX, and before that a classroom teacher.

@Ethan Rosbury if I’m honest at first it was the $$ and the work schedule. But now that I have been through the first half of the training I find it interesting too and am excited to learn more.
Per diem question
Anyone know the per diem rate for decon and/or Jr RP for WH? Is it the same regardless where you travel or does it change based on site/state/city? Just trying to get an idea of what to expect as I try to get assigned to outages.
