Hi Andy , I went to the South Island of New Zealand four years ago and loved it ! Milford sound is such a beautiful waterway ! In my experience whist there the land areas surrounding it were infested with tiny mozzies / sand flies making it very unpleasant to be on land at all . I think this is common but investigate more .. don’t take my word for it . I walked the hooker valley track at mt cook ( aoraki) and really really loved that . It was a short walk ( couple of hours ) .. left me wanting to camp there and walk more there another time . Lake tekapo is a must as is the other nearby lake ( can’t remember it’s name right now ) Queenstown and surrounds incredible scenery .. we went white water rafting there ! Very expensive in Queenstown though being Adventure Capital . Loved Dunedin and the Otago penninsula . Lots to love about your he sth island of New Zealand .
