@Bridget Canady in this case I recommend that he learns python. It is an easy language to learn and it is used for almost everything. It is the language of AI. A great place to learn python is https://www.edx.org There are free python classes from Harvard University and other great institutions. While he is there i also recommend that he takes the course " CS50 Introduction to computer science" by Harvard University. it is also free and it will give him a greate base to build his knowledge on.
