if we were a tree...nature as reflection
greetings everyone. i or we believe nature - wild and untouched - holds deep wisdom and we humans can learn so much from it; through reflection about our own nature and our relationship to others, 1:1, in a group, community, society etc. i draw parallels from it and apply it personally. so i have a few questions that i need help with and would like to ask the next days maybe in separate threads. but before that i share a playful question from another group and ask you: If you were part of a tree, which part would you want to be? let me know... blessings

@Tuhi Christ you’ve done your research! ☺️ That is indeed what I’m about. And I probably know more about the roots of our mind than the roots of strawberries and trees to be fair. But both grow from good soil. Start with the soil and the rest falls into place. Although the soil too comes from the fruits/leaves etc. so no beginning, no end, only the nurture of symbiotic relationships.

@Tuhi Christ possibly. I don’t know enough really. Jack could possibly answer that one!
Little orchard area. What would you do…?
I have an approx 1/2 acre orchard area, grassed with 20 (so far) x 2-4 year old fruit trees spaced out. I’d like to grow ground cover, plant more food, keep a wild / forest garden vibe. No neat beds or high maintenance. Thinking wild strawberries, creeping time… ? But what would you do? Regardless today I’m laying cardboard / mulch areas ready to plant but I’m very open to suggestions for this area 🌱 (it’s an outer zone)

@Phillip Greenwood very nice. I have a vision similar to this in another area. The fruit trees shown (and the meadow there) are the furthest away from our ‘zone 0’ so I really want to keep maintenance minimal there. You’ve also reminded me to stop thinking in straight lines.

@Phillip Greenwood beautiful, I can’t wait to show you pics of ours looking like this. Feels very inviting,
Being pro active (climate change)
One of my personal goals is to plant a minimum of 300 trees each year and 10,000 in my Lifetime.( Which has already been achieved). In one five year period I didn't manage to plant any, Which I regret , and this year 3,000 have gone in the ground. So my aim is solid, but flexible and the more people who are planting trees, the more the climate stability locally increases and more wildlife habitat and diversity returns, and natural balance follows

I had a wander through my (very little) trees today - luckily no deer damage. I also thought about how I’ll likely never see an established woodland 😢 at least not how I imagine it. I do hope the next generation take care of them. The many acres next to my house in Essex is about to become a housing estate 😔

@Phillip Greenwood ah that makes sense. At the moment the trees are quite spaced in a grid but I have plants to go between - bushes, smaller trees etc. I have a vague idea of the 7? levels but still have a lot to learn.
Indoor GROW/Nursey
Share your pictures, this is mostly microgreens but the shelves with lighting : mostly strip lights with a daylight halogen or led at 6500k lumens (daylight bulb) to mimic the sun and the red light is a full spectrum light which can even grow them to more maturing flowering stage. If you want tips on the best indoor set up, message me. But a simple sunny window is ideal. Main thing is the soils warm, they are out the wind and the sun / artificial light helps the, become strong and not leggy

I'd LOVE to do this Jack. My sunny window seal ain't cutting it lol. Once I'm here on the land 'permanently' I'm thinking shipping container, caravan, polytunnel....? Where's the best place for a microgreen set up in your opinion?
Introduction
My name is Owen, and I want to thank the admins for the approval and introduce myself to the community. I never grew a plant in my life until I moved to California end of 2016, and started working with cannabis. From growing cannabis and being out in nature, I developed this strong passion for wanting to create a literal forest of food and medicine. Through sychronisisry, I found myself traveling to Peru in 2022 and out of country for the first time ever to the jungle, to work with ayahuasca. I later found another sychronisisry with finding Discover Permaculture led by Geoff Lawton in the beginning of 2024. Enrollment begins March of 2026. At the end of this year, I am selling all that I have to make the move to Peru to start my first farm, work with and understand plant medicine, and begin planting the seeds to one day create a literal forest of food and medicine. I don't know where this path will lead, but I sure know where I don't want it to go. Through a knowing and understanding of what not to do, this guidance eventually leads to a path of what to do. Cooperation instead of competition, we instead of me. Understanding polarities for me, is a driving factor of what makes me who I am. I am grateful to join my first permaculture group, and I look forward to being a student to each person here. . Much love and respect. 🙏
