I Understand the Allure (a case against fakes)
I'm sure a lot of people when first starting out down the endless rabbit hole that is watch collecting, loving, appreciating etc. were tempted by or at least entertained the idea of getting a fake luxury watch. I know when I first started down this path I came across a few and was blown away at how unbelievably good some of those super clones looked. The materials and attention to detail were incredibly done and you could get one for around $5-600. So as the title states, I understand the allure. We become enamored by a certain model. We spend so much time looking at different photos from every angle. We read articles about them and watch reviews online and eventually we're completely dug in. For me it wasn't at all about trying to fool anyone, but just the idea of having something SO close to the real thing in my hands to admire. The temptation is real. Otherwise there wouldn't be a market for them obviously. I'll preface this by saying I never fell prey to the temptation and looking back I am so glad I didn't. I'm not the first or thousandth person to say this but it is true that no matter how well it's made and no matter if you're the only one on earth that knows it's fake, it will NEVER bring you the joy you think it will. Things to consider: Wouldn't you feel like a fraud? Is it worth it? Do you want to walk around with the thought in the back of your mind that someone might recognize it and expose you? I think you may grow to resent it more than the old man's beating heart beneath the floorboards. Now the thought doesn't even cross my mind, but I still try to convince others not to do it without shaming them over it because again, I understand the impulse. The three pictured are one's I got with the intent of making a video about this subject. I didn't pay anything for them and they're not even good clones honestly. I thought I would put this in the general discussion in case anyone had their own stories or thoughts concerning the subject. Salud!

@John Hanslip I totally understand the strong temptation but you’ll always know whether anyone else does or not and that would dig at me.

@John Hanslip the Tudor ranger is a beautiful watch but if you want to go even more IYKYK then I strongly suggest looking into the Smiths Everest.
Hello Bambino my old Friend
Not sure if a dress watch like this beauty goes well with corduroy but my Chelseas helped by matching my strap.

@Scott Critchfield my first automatic watch was a white dial bambino but it was too big at 40.5mm. I absolutely love this 38mm and the cream dial just adds that chef’s kiss 🤌
Character or Distraction?
My ‘59 Longines Silver Arrow has so much elegance packed into such a small case. I wish the cross hatching on this Rose dial showed up better in the photo. Some people jump at the opportunity to restore everything to perfection and some cherish the flaws and wear of a vintage piece. What do you guys think of the worn burnished looking spot between 4-5 o’clock?

@Nicholas Yarka Restoration usually kills the value of vintage pieces but if you plan to always have it, there’s a legit argument for that for sure.

I rarely if ever wear black, but I think this guy suits my sweater just fine! 👌

Snow Dial?
I thought this bad boy would be too bulky. It’s not at all. 👌
