Live Perfomances?
Do you think performing your music in a live setting is beneficial to building a fanbase? And if so, when is the appropriate time to start?

It depends. If you are talking about busking don't listen to anyone who suggests street performers are poor or says something negative about it. Some people can make good money from just busking. You can think of as a stepping stone
Change the Way You Think
99.9% of the artists try to break through in the U.S. and then focus on conquering the rest of the world (mainly by touring Europe). However, has anyone ever thought about an approach of doing this the other way around by targeting major European countries like France, Germany or Italy - where English is not their first language - in order to break into the U.S. market using the leverage of fans, airplay, etc. that you've built up?

I looked it up, Asia has 4.7 billion people, Africa 1.4 billion, Europe 750m, USA 330m

@Eddie Melendez It's a country compared to continents, but I realize if you only think about the USA, then that's only about 5% of world population
Q for Self taught audio engineers
Hi everyone! New member, here👋🏾 Just a little backstory. I've recorded several songs over the years however, to me, they've never sounded quite the way the should (standard, radio/stream ready). Which, as ive come to notice, has kept me in a "post & delete" cycle. This comes down to the mixing. I've watched a ton of YouTube how-to's on the topic, yet the information just hasn't...connected. it's my goal to be able to successfully mix my own music (affordability reasons) I have also looked into having someone mix for me, but they usually only accept 1 - 5 stems. That simply won't do for the way I record. Also, I use an outdated macbook garageband daw that refuses to update. SO, the question is, what are some of the most helpful tips you've gathered during your self-taught journey to mixing your own music?

There are people who teach entire courses on this and they'll coach you 1 on 1 until you're pro. If you can't find or afford that then remember the basics: - Properly treated room (you can DIY), bass traps are especially important. This can be done with wood, a staple gun, cotton insulation, and cloth. You'll have to search this up. Obviously don't staple gun your hand by accident, and if you can't DIY you can buy them pre made - Good monitor speakers (you might need big ones or small ones plus a sub if you're in any genre that has low end) - There are tools to further equalize your speakers relative to your room, I forgot what they're called So you need the foundation of it in order to get good at mixing. For those going the artist path it might be best to just do the minimum: put up acoustic curtains and make DIY a recording booth, maybe put up bass traps. You might need to DIY until your career takes off. So for artists it's a question of do you want to deal with getting into the details of mixing. Maybe you just want to do the minimum to record and get others to mix. And you might need to do whatever hustle to get some cash to get decent equipment.

Is There An Age Limit to Music??
Lately I have been contemplating on this question. Looking at the time spent chasing this music hustle, vs the current success, I feel the added pressure brought about by the fact that I am now in my early 30's. I will like to know from you guys, do you think there is an age by which you should have made it, and if one hasn't by then should we pull the plug? ??

do you want to the music industry to only be the following two: 1. young men and women chosen for their looks 2. people who come from wealthy or advantaged families who start the kid practicing an instrument at 4 There's talented people from this list but I think this is boring af We don't have this conversation with anything else... Do you expect a 40 or 60 year old to be able to write a better book or movie than a 20 year old?
