My 1st "Big" Design & Cut
Over the past 8 months, I've been learning how to use my Onefinity Journeyman Elite. I've learned A LOT from YouTube University sources, like Ryan, Kyle Ely (bought Learn Your CNC), Andy Bird (bought his CNC Kickstart), IDC Woodcraft, and Duffy Woodcraft videos, including downloading his files, suchas his Cribbage and Coffee scoops (which, while not be a hot sale item at $15 each, I am selling them steady enough that I have to keep making them). I've also learned some from Etsy files I've downloaded. Until now, except for small designs (like cutting out cabinet parts and drawers for my CNC table, I've been learning practicing mostly from these and Ryan's Kits of the Month and other videos. Not wanting my CNC Business to just be other designs that I've purchased, etc, I designed my own Cribbage board with storage. The attached VCarve file is MY file (I tried to send it to Slim at CIC through Yahoo, but it was too big, so I told him I'd post it here), that I created and it worked, and I'm ecstatic over it. There are a couple of extra tool paths in it to clear out missed wood that was shown in the Preview-something that I'm sure is just something I'm missing about the toolpaths. Please tell me what y'all think.

@Tim Lawrence Congrats that’s a big milestone. Moving from cutting other people’s files to designing and successfully cutting your own project is when you really start becoming a CNC creator, not just a machine operator. 🎉 It’s clear you put in the work over the last 8 months learning from sources like Ryan, Kyle Ely, Andy Bird, IDC Woodcraft, and Duffy Woodcraft. Practicing with real projects like cribbage boards and coffee scoops and even selling them is great experience and shows your machine is already producing marketable items. Designing your own cribbage board with storage in VCarve and getting a successful cut is the hardest step, and you did it. Even noticing the missed wood in the preview and adding extra toolpaths shows you’re learning how to read toolpaths and solve problems. The best part is your mindset: wanting your CNC business to focus on your own designs, not just purchased files. That’s exactly what will make your work stand out. Overall, great job—this is a solid step toward building a real CNC product line. 👍
Best CNC Bits For Beginners 🧰
One of the biggest struggles for CNC beginners is choosing the right bits without wasting money on ones you don’t need. So, in my latest video, I’m breaking it all down by cutting a live CNC project using 5 MUST-HAVE bits every beginner should own. Get the Bit Set Here: https://cicworkshop.com/collections/bits/products/essential-bit-starter-set 🔥 In this video, you’ll learn: ✅ How to actually use these 5 bits for clean, precise cuts ✅ The difference between upcut, downcut, and V-bits in action ✅ Why choosing the right bit saves time, frustration, and material ✅ My go-to bit for surfacing and getting perfectly smooth stock ⚡ If you’re new to CNC or struggling with rough cuts, this video is for you! Plus, I’ve put all these essential bits together into a Beginner Bit Kit, so you can grab them all in one place. 🎥 Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/TjfdMxBt1wM?si=5Hi0pfzo2v4nm_nj 💬 Which CNC bit do you use the most?
