The Hazard We Can’t See: Heat Stress
When you’re focused on finishing the job, it’s easy to ignore the early signs like feeling tired, dizzy or having a headache. But heat stress can creep up faster than we realise. A few simple habits can make a big difference: - 💧 Keep drinking water throughout the day, not only when you feel thirsty. - 🌳 Take your rest breaks in a shaded or cool area. - 👀 Look out for one another. If a co-worker doesn’t seem like themselves, check in with them. Sometimes, it’s about paying attention to the things we can’t see. Like the effect the heat has on our bodies. Thus, looking after myself is also looking after my team.

The Hazard We Can’t See: Heat Stress
A Small Amount of Water Can Create a Big Problem
A small pool of stagnant water in a pail, wheelbarrow, container, or uncovered equipment can become a mosquito breeding site in just a few days. Besides health risks, it can also lead to enforcement action and affect the company’s reputation. Simple habits make a difference: - Empty and overturn containers after use. - Cover equipment that can collect rainwater. - Keep drains clear and free from blockage. - Inspect the site regularly, especially after rain. It's not just about compliance, but protecting the workers and public.

Safety today, everyone home tomorrow
Every safe workplace starts with small actions: recognising hazards, following procedures, speaking up when something doesn’t look right, and looking out for one another. No single person is responsible for safety; it’s a shared responsibility that depends on everyone, from workers on the ground to supervisors and management. A few extra minutes spent doing the job safely will always be worth more than rushing and risking an incident. Let’s continue building a culture where safety isn’t just a requirement, but a value we all live by.

As a member of the public once upon a time
As a member of the public in the past, i see nothing until the road is completed, upgrading works already done. All i care about is the noise generated while works are ongoing. Now, if suddenly something goes wrong, then we get free fired in every angle. Oh, it could have been prevented they say. Now i'm slowly understanding how much work is done behind the scenes. Eye-opening!

The incident that never happened
A worker almost trips over an extension cable. He's not hurt, he keeps on walking. No sounding out, no report because of no injury. Then the next day, another worker trips over the same extension cable. He was not so lucky. He fractured his wrist. Thus, the difference between a near miss and an accident is often based on luck?? Today's near miss can very well be next day's incident if we do nothing.
