Running economy: Why “stronger” can mean “faster at the same effort.”
Strength has a definite impact on how we run. Better running economy not only helps us run faster, but can also decrease our chance of injury through better movement patterns. - Strength can reduce wasted motion. - Triathlon link: better run off the bike for the same HR/pace. Below is a study that discusses the effects of strength training on middle & long distance runner's economy. An excerpt from this article mentions: "The combination of two or more strength training methods (e.g., high load training, plyometric training) may induce greater running economy improvement, compared to isolated training methods." Study: systematic review/meta-analysis on strength training & running economy. Note: all articles and studies are up for interpretation, and there are usually other studies that refute ones that you've read. It's important that you use your best judgement when deciding what you believe to be the truth. As a coach, I use studies to help me validate what I've seen and experienced in my career.

We have seen improved form, technique, strength and speed by incorporating plyometrics to our run practices. We normally do them twice a week during our off season and then at least once a week at our run practices during the season. The length of time spent on plyo decreases as we hit the race phase, but we do have plyo in our dynamic warm up done before every run session and before races.

Yes by muscle or muscle grouping
Exercises we love to hate.
Post the exercise you hate but know you need. I'll start. Squats. I'm pretty sure everyone hates squats.

Squats not my favorite but really dislike sumo squats, especially if heel lifted. Personally, don't care for alternating jump lunges either.
