Burpees: Derek's POV
I get why people do burpees, and I get why coaches ask athletes to do them. Hopefully this video can help you "Find Your Why Not". 🤓 Be the change you want to see in the strength & fitness world. And LMK if you need help 🤗 Love Coach Derek.

Loved the “technical catastrophe” comment 😂 and yes it SUCKS to do burpees and now I have permission not to! Now, can you work the same magic and get mountain climbers out of my life? Similar technical disaster and 10/10 on the “this sucks” scale.
If you could choose only ONE piece of equipment 🧰 to help improve 📈 your squash strength & fitness, what would it be?
I'll drop my vote in after a couple member comments, so post now! It could be anything - from cones 🔺(for agility or court movement) to a barbell 🏋🏽‍♂️ (for strength or power) to a piece of technology📱(for planning, organization, coaching, or otherwise) 🥳. DV

Love/hate on doing burpees. Small space, no equipment needed. Great for building cardio as well as explosive quad power through the jump.

That’s what I like to hear, no more burpees!
OPEN vs CLOSED stance: When and why?
First off, congrats to Derek and team for building such an awesome community and classroom 👏🏻 After watching Nick’s ghosting video, I noticed he uses a closed stance for the front and back corners but open stance for the side volleys (I assume for speed of getting there to cut it off). I generally use more open stance on my forehand especially on a drive as balance feels good and more importantly it’s cleaner (ball doesn’t catch the side wall). But I almost always do a closed stance on any backhand shot as it ensures I get my back facing the front wall plus it gives me the stability needed to execute the shot. Looking to be more deliberate in my choice, undo some bad habits and ultimately understand benefits of one over the other and in which situations. My son and I just had a good discussion about this which made me curious as to what other members are doing, when and why? Thanks for your input!

Pt.1 OFFENCE vs. DEFENCE: A Sport Performance Analogy I Love
Analogies are awesome because they connect a less-know or abstract thing (e.g., the wrist action in a forehand drive) to something more widely known or concrete thing (e.g., skipping a stone). They help us understand new or complicated things in a direct and simple way. Cool. 😎 OFFENCE vs. DEFENCE is one of the best analogies to better understand squash strength & fitness training. Offence is the fun, sexy, highlight-able stuff in your training. It's the obvious effort. It's the hard work, court time, solo work, pressure sessions, strength training, conditioning runs. Think "slapping a cross-court nick". You can hear the cheers. Offence is what everyone WANTS TO DO, TRYS TO DO BETTER, AND EXPECTS (to some degree, anyway). Most schedules are built for offence. But left to its own devices, offence becomes the attention-seeking kid who distracts you while sucking up all of your energy, leaving you frazzled and confused. You can see this in the vast majority of ambitious players who are doing A LOT but are seemingly stuck and struggling. Enter D-FENCE (👏 👏 👏). Can you guess at what kind of stuff equals defence in your training? Comment below!

Love the skipping stone analogy, was never explained to me that way and thought of it as I solo’d today
