Your business works the same way, but somewhere along the way, the internet and all it's gurus convinced us to start with the roof. We pick a number like six figures or $10K months and then start chasing customers without knowing where that number even came from. Before you decide what your business should make, you need to know what it costs to keep it running, how much you need or want to pay yourself, and what needs to be set aside for taxes and profit. Once you know those numbers, you can figure out what your business actually needs to generate each month... and based on what you sell, how many customers it will take to get there.
