Our children with nuclear weapons in their hands
A 2025 Common Sense summit report found 53% of parents think kids would be better off with less social media/smartphone use. Parents are doing their best to limit the negative effect that excessive cellphone use have on their children, but the latest research shows that our children are more depressed and socially disconnected than ever. Fact is...we can try to monitor our children's online safety as much as we can, using all the available tools that we have. But once you put that cellphone in your child's hand, it's like giving them a very powerful weapon with some level oversight. Children need more than oversight, they need the internal capability to understand its power, use it intentionally in a positive way and set healthy boundaries to protect their identities and mental health.

I agree, to much oversight and they feel you do not trust them. Rather explain the good and bad to them of social media etc. Screentime is a good thing and the times should be a agreement between parent and child, social skills is very important for us as humans. The big threat today is cyber bullying and our children must trust us to speak to us if there is anything bothering them. I know it is off topic but parents should stop being “best pals” to our kids and take responsibility to teach our kids right and wrong so they have that internal capability.
Management by Fear
I always say that fear is the easiest, cheapest way to get people to do what you want them to do. But fear has a short shelf life. People quickly shift and adjust their behaviour to protect themselves - without any real imapct on productivity or engagement. This then creates an interesting dynamic. The manager/educator/parent then has to level up their cruelty and manipulation tactics to make sure that fear once again spread like a virus throughout the organisation. And so it goes on and on and on. An ever escalating situation of demeaning insults, manipulation, threats and overt anger. The people left in the aftermath are disillusioned, checked-out, disengaged, hopeless and constantly in fight/flight mode. It is only once the manager leans into healing the cause of their need to manage by fear that a shift will happen in the culture of the organisation. So leading firstly starts with the healing of the self. If it doesn’t start there, no other strategy will work. Because strategy has to be executed by people (who are mostly flawed and dealing with their past). I would love to know your ideas on this?

My take on a person who uses fear to manage in a workplace is someone who had a very sad childhood. Maybe he/she was bullied at school or by a parent. Yes it will not last long, there will always be a game change for the reason to keep it up is tiredsum for the person thus the change or healing will only come if the person acknowledge the help for healing or a change in management.
Bad leadership
