See you in a few minutes! Phew...just finished decorating the tree with my visiting family mere moments ago! It's been a very busy day. I am looking forward to this face-to-face!
Hey everyone – I’m Martin.
I’m here to help CONVERTED CLOSET bring this course to life in the best possible way. My background is in video production and advertising — and even though I know absolutely nothing about sewing, I did sew a button on my jacket the other day… my proudest project so far 😂 (Proof on the photo) I would like to help make this course create as much value as possible for all of you. Thanks for being part of the tester group — your feedback is pure gold for someone like me 🙏

@Martin Hou I just bought a pink fluorescent vinyl jacket at the thrift store a few weeks ago. Trying to figure out how I’ll transform it. I’m an artist and sometimes use clothing in my art- a recent one:

My twilly
Hi everyone, so here's my first attempt at a twilly and my first refashion. I started with an old dress I had been gifted to refashion back when I started sewing in 2010 but I never attempted as 1) I had just given birth so I was nowhere near my final post-baby body 2) I hadn't been sewing for long so found it easier to dabble with fabric rather than feel like I was going to "ruin" a garment by chopping it up. Thanks to the twilly videos and my newer 40+ attitude of it's just sitting in a "stash" so it's no good to me there I finally tackled it. I removed the whole skirt and took two panels out as the volume of gathers really felt unflattering on my hips. I cut two strips from one skirt panel to make this twilly and still have another panel I think I'll make a wider headband with as well as the bodice to refashion. I think I'll adjust the neckline of that to make it more my style then I can wear them as separates as well as together as a faux-dress. Sorry about the lighting - typical, it's just become very gloomy here in south east England and we've had our first snow of the autumn/winter this afternoon. Wendy x

Before & after
Hello everyone, it’s been great catching up on what everyone has been making. I’ve been spending some time on mine over the weekend and am posting a video to show the before and after. As usual when it comes to sewing I have gone off on one and ended up making it more complicated than it needs to be 😂 but I’m pleased with the result. Just on the look out for a couple of little Pom Pom’s now 👀

WOWEEEE! That fabric is amazing! What a great conversion. Impressive, and it looks so wearable!
Project #1: Twilly!
Hello all! Here is my first attempt at the twilly. (I think my "before" picture shows last here, despite my attempt to order them chronologically!) This is a woolen top with some sparkly bits woven through that I used to wear to work sometimes. I always thought it was a bit too long and slightly difficult to pull on and off because of the shape of the shoulders. I packed it away several years ago intending to alter it. As you can see in the pics, I shortened the bodice and removed the sleeves. I recut the armscyes slightly bigger under the arm and on the front, but not the back. Because there is a lining, finishing was tricky. I ended up using bias binding on the armscyes (I couldn't figure out how to do a burrito method). The bottom hem was a little easier to finish with my machine and some hand sewing, if a bit clumsy. I used the material I cut off the bodice for my twilly, about 70" long and 1" wide. I used the lining on one side and the fashion fabric on the other since the fashion fabric is a little scratchy and thick. Because the fashion fabric is a little thick, it might have been better at a slightly wider width. I wanted to use tassels for the ends but wasn't able to find any at my local fabric store, but I did find some pretty amber/black rosettes at my local creative reuse center, so I used that when I styled the twilly as a choker. I also have styled the twilly in my hair which I think I like as the fabric has some sparkly in it that picks up the silver in my hair.
