Heated debate: where do you stand?
Good morning, Impact community. The county I work in is updating its grading policy for the new school year. There is a heated debate about whether or not students should have been given input in the new policy before it was finalized. What do you think? Should students have a say in how they are graded? If so, how much say? At what age? If not, why not?

7th grade and up, I allow re do's on any assignment, the students choose if they want to. It is their grade if they want an A they can get it. If they thought they got the topic in math and failed the work and we talked about what was missing and they learned from the mistake then why not let them prove it to me. My goal for everyone is learning, not what day they learned it.

@Lori Henderson younger grades I do not know, but I gave the choice when I subbed. I graded as they did papers and if the missed a math or other core question I would say "hey can you check number 3 for me" and they would do the re do. And they were happy about fixing it for me. Older kids I have never had a group where the majority did not want the opportunity when given, that way they get the vote. They also vote on class rules. I only have 4 and they get to add any they want.
