Music 101 - Mastering Assignment
Hello everybody! This feels like a win... :) I've had a go at implementing what I've learnt in the first module of Music 101. But I tried out the final assignment on one of my own songs. I had already released this song, but I think I might go back and update the track to this version. Playing around with the EQ, using the PAZ Analyser and reference track, really helped, and then getting to grips (a little more) with compression and dynamics definitely seemed to have made a difference to the overall loudness of the track. I would love to hear your thoughts.

@Mike Booth ooh, yes!! I wish I had been more of a ‘pain’ and asked more questions! In reality people are usually helpful and happy to share knowledge… but I didn’t think that way at the time. 😊
Long screen recording, writing from scratch (orchestral version)
a few people asked for this recording, it's long so i'd probably start at 45 min in as that's about the time I figure out the melody/chords i'm using, then it builds quicker from there. also sorry for the bad audio quality, this was using Skool's "live meeting" feature which unfortunately doesn't sound as good as zoom replays. in the future for this stuff I'll be using zoom. let me know if you have any questions if you watch parts of it and want to dive deeper. also, I really like how this turned out, so I posted it on my instagram: https://www.instagram.com/p/Dan7vcvvHYU/ If you share your music on socials, let's stay connected over there too - peace!

@Luke Despain awesome! Thank you!
write from scratch, let the feelings arrive
(I posted this in the Radio Ready Single channel, but also wanted to share here for the people who attend my Composition Calls) last night around 11pm I was playing the piano and came across this melancholic, kind of whimsical melody and chord progression. i started a live hangout in the members club channel to record and share the process. by about 2am I had written a short song with pianos, soft synths, layered strings, and a gradual build that, to me, feels like holding on to a fleeting moment. you know that feeling when you realize that something special is temporary and all you can do it just sink into that moment a little deeper? that's what this song started to feel like for me Let me know if you want me to drop a link to the full, un-hyperlapsed video of me making this, heads up it's long and kind of boring, but some of you may enjoy suffering through watching me compose this from scratch. with all the tools at our disposal for music generation, i hope we take the time to create things from scratch and let the creative process unfold naturally now and then, even if it takes longer.
