I just want to blame Igor...
For his continuous support, plus he kept saying, 'Yeah, but for your next book...' I started the draft on my next book, sir. Are you happy now? 😁 Still haven't published the current one, battling the obstacle of 'Just do it!' – as Igor keeps saying – but I am in no hurry. I truly like having found back the joy of researching and writing again, as that was something that hadn't happened until my 'semi'-retirement. 🙏

@Igor O Next week I get to finally go on my honeymoon and celebrate being married for 1 year, so everything is halted for now. After that, I will get back to the book cover.

@John Kutzer Ah, good reminder. Going to plan my agenda for coming week, thanks.
Question for fellow authors...
As a new member here, I'm curious to learn from everyone. What's one lesson about writing or publishing that you wish you had known before you started? I'm still learning every day, and I think conversations like this can help both new and experienced authors. Looking forward to reading your answers!

@Serena Pier I might not have started if I realised this beforehand. 😁
Question for fellow authors...
If you could go back and give yourself one piece of advice before publishing your very first book, what would it be? For me, it would be to focus on building relationships with readers from the beginning, not just finishing the manuscript. I'm curious to hear your answer. What's the one thing you wish you had known sooner?

@Stephen Shapiro, @Serena Pier, and @Martina Boone, thanks for the advice and feedback on the original post, and Martina, for creating it. I noticed that all three of you have your own personal domain websites, but none of them offer much user engagement. If you could, how would you implement more of that on your website? In my opinion having your own website is a valuable step towards proper marketing. It can give you some extra control over the outgoing narrative and also offers trackable landing pages for your posts outside the website. What other benefits have you experienced by running your own personal domain? On a side note, sorry, professional habit; for research, I started comparing them. Stephen, I like yours very much; the style is very business-like, which fits your genre, and you have the best contact options, something I would definitely consider myself. For all three I would for sure suggest running your websites through a free analysis like Please check https://pagespeed.web.dev, especially for Martina, as your website is currently not working properly, but I think you can easily fix the issues. https://stephenshapiro.com https://www.serenapier.com https://martinaboone.com It would be great if Skool would let you add them to your profile or allow you to add a basic signature under your posts, as we can learn a lot from others here.
Book cover testing
Finally got to creating my book cover. My first attempts where shot down dramatically, by my own daughter (designer) and my stepdaughter (artist). 😆 Of course I didn’t believe them at first, but then I found out that the critics' report from https://www.diybookcovers.com/ completely agreed with their opinions. Learnt a lesson (or two). ☺️ The picture is mine (Wat Arun temple in Bangkok). I have created it in Canva. Dimensions are as stipulated by Amazon KDP: 1600 width and 2560 height. I've run it through the website above several times and refined it with Gemini; this is version 9.b. 😗 Second pic shows the progression from really bad to where it is now. Feedback welcome.🙏

@Igor O I'll have a look at Canva another day, today I'm done and exhausted. 🙏
KDP Identity verification issues circumvented
I completed my tax information on KDP 🎂, and all of a sudden it moved to ID verification. This was not an issue before, but now that I have completed and filled out the infamous Form W-8BEN, it requires some ID. This was a problem when filling in my address in Thailand for ID verification. Your identity information has to be the same as on your ID. I changed it but then fell into the trap that the system used is based on US IDs, and apparently they have an address on them, which Dutch IDs don't. I bypassed this issue by using my parents' address, which I have used in situations like this before (e.g., with my Dutch bank). The next problem was that my ID had a different name than Your Identity. My name is First Name Last Name. On our IDs (passport, driver's licence, etc.) we have Last Name, First Name. So now I have a new name in Your Identity; I hope that does not show up somewhere else. 😃 Sidenote: Thanks to the double-tax treaty between the USA and Thailand, my withholding tax is not 30% but only 5%. 🙏 I hope this information helps others.
