Why Most Self-Published Books Never Make Sales 📚
Most self-published books fail not because the author is bad, but because the strategy is weak. Common mistakes include: • Choosing the wrong niche • Poor book covers • Weak titles & descriptions • No marketing strategy • Wrong keywords • Low-quality content • Giving up too early Self-publishing is more than just uploading a book you need the right strategy to attract readers and make sales. 🚀 What do you think is the biggest mistake beginners make in self-publishing? Have you ever tried publishing a book before? 👇

This is a great point. Writing the book is only one part of the self-publishing journey. Understanding your readers, creating a strong presentation, and having a visibility plan are all important pieces of building a successful author career. Many beginners underestimate the business side of publishing.

@Brad Silva Not an actor, I’m primarily focused on writing. Though I do think acting skills can be incredibly useful for understanding characters and bringing their emotions to life on the page.

The Gap Between Two Launches
I compared two authors who published in the same month, same genre, similar quality. Six months later, one had a steady stream of readers finding their book weekly. The other hadn't sold a copy since launch week. When I looked closer, the gap wasn't talent, effort, or even marketing budget. It was something much simpler. Anyone want to guess before I share?

My guess would be consistency and what happened after launch. A strong launch can create momentum, but ongoing visibility is often what keeps readers discovering the book months later. Looking forward to hearing your take.
Quick question, just out of interest...
If you could sell your eBook directly from your site, and readers could read it instantly in a private library (no downloads), would you use it?

@Ania Ahlborn Hi, great to connect with you as well! Welcome to the community. Looking forward to learning and sharing ideas with you along the way.
Your book may not be the problem. Your process might be.
I’ve been working on my own publishing journey, and one thing I’ve learned is that knowing the steps is one thing, actually getting everything done consistently is another. When I started, I spent a lot of time figuring things out through trial and error. What’s helped me most so far is keeping things simple, focusing on one step at a time, and learning from people who have already tested what works. I’m still learning, so I’d love to hear from others here who are actively working toward the same goal. What’s currently bothering you or stopping you from moving forward with your self-publishing journey? And if you’ve already overcome that challenge, what worked for you?

I completely agree. Knowing the publishing process and consistently executing each step are two very different challenges. I’ve found that trying to tackle everything at once can quickly become overwhelming, so breaking the process into manageable stages makes a big difference. For me, one of the biggest challenges is balancing the creative side of writing with everything that comes after the manuscript is finished editing, covers, formatting, marketing, and actually getting the book in front of the right readers. Each part requires a different mindset, and it’s easy to spend too much time perfecting one area while neglecting another. What has helped me most is focusing on the next meaningful action rather than trying to solve the entire publishing journey at once. I’m still learning as well, but I’ve found that consistency and being willing to adjust based on results are just as important as having a good plan. I’d be interested to hear what others are struggling with too, especially when it comes to turning a completed manuscript into a book that actually reaches its intended audience.
