Stop breaking your n8n updates (and get the new stuff first)
Hey everyone! I just dropped a new breakdown on how to actually manage your n8n versions without the headache. If you’re still just using the "latest" tag, you’re missing out on the newest 2.1 features—or worse, risking a crash without a backup. In this quick guide, I’m covering: - The "Tag" Secret: How to switch between Stable and Beta so you get the cutting-edge features before everyone else. - Zero-Risk Updates: My exact process for backing up all my 160+ workflows to a CSV before hitting that update button. - The Console Method: A step-by-step look at editing your Docker Compose file to get version 2.1.0 live right now. I’ve also uploaded the Backup & Restoration Workflow to the classroom/links below. Grab it so you can update with total peace of mind. Let me know in the comments—are you team "Stable" or do you like living on the "Beta" edge? 👇

Mentioned in the other post too. Always have scheduled backups. These 2 scripts Tanner has are so simple and effective. Spun up a new N8N and imported restore json, ran it and all flies back working as they were. One note thou. If you have any special conditions in your N8N make sure you implement them in any new instance you are spinning up. Example. If you have ffmpeg in docker file (Build) that runs with docker compose, your new instance must also have that setup or flows that use ffmpeg will fail as ffmpeg is not in same environment as N8N flow expects it. Great stuff though
New MCP server
Has anyone found a way to use the new MCP server connection to debug localhosted workflows with the cloud version of Claude or Chat GPT? How did you manage to solve it?

@Tobias Rosén hi. What are using to interact with the flow and how? I use vs code and provide and api token to my instance. Keep token active (expire) in 4-5 hours. I explain the issue in vs code to Claude and Claude pulls down my entire flow and provides insight on plausible problems. Granted it does at times go down wrong path, but if you are specific in what node (s) are problematic it normally does a great job in helping fix the issue. Claude now has N8N structure knowledge on nodes, which nodes do what, and more importantly I have found that it some nodes like different syntax to work properly. Hope this helped a little.
n8n v2.0 just dropped! Here's How to Update Your Self-Hosted Instance
Here's a step-by-step guide on how to update your self hosted n8n to be able to access this pre-release v2.0.0 of n8n! Don't take the risk of guessing, follow along with me and I'll help make sure you do it right the first time! Also, worried about losing your workflows you've worked so hard to build? I know I was, so I went ahead and built a backup and restore system so you can have peace when you go to update your server. Stay tuned for more videos going over the update and other releases!

@Tanner Woodrum , i just ran it and it worked great.. i honestly struggled for a bit with backing n8n up, and being able to keep creds and flows, etc.. together. This honestly worked without no issues, and all 145 flows went right back, did not delete any, but... I do have a question, and might test on blank new n8n instance, can this be used from scratch? just install restore node, and let it run and now have another instance of my n8n? (guess maybe a bit dumb there) :)
