Culture Over Chaos: A Gen X Travel Perspective
Hey fam ☮️ The world feels loud right now. The headlines are heavy. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed watching events unfold from a distance. But I want us to ground ourselves in something deeper than flight deals and bucket lists. Travel isn’t just where we go, it's how we see humanity. People aren’t headlines. They’re families, cultures, histories. As Gen X, we grew up with context. We learned nuance before it was a hashtag. We understand that the world is layered and not black and white. So let’s approach this moment the same way we approach meaningful travel: With curiosity With empathy With understanding before judgment Culture over chaos means: Looking beyond headlines Holding space for humanity Seeking depth, not distraction Travelers before tourists Thinkers before consumers Quick check-in: When world events feel intense, do you lean toward UNDERSTAND or AVOID?

I lean towards "Understand". That’s what peace & 1-love means to me; seeking context, listening, and remembering there are real humans behind every headline. Understanding doesn’t mean ignoring safety. I always prioritize awareness, timing, and smart decisions when world events feel intense. Empathy first & safety always.

Right now my travel vibe is calling for wellness to relieve my pent up stress. April, I’m traveling to Houston, Texas and the end of April, I’m traveling to Jamaica.

Since 2012, I haven’t just booked trips. I've guided journeys. Not just reservations but reassurance. Not chaos but confidence. Now something’s shifted. We’re not chasing cheap anymore. We're chasing peace. Not checking boxes. Choosing meaning. Not “How much can I see? "But “How does this feel?” More of us are traveling solo but we don’t want to feel alone. We want freedom not overwhelm. Community not crowds. So here’s what’s next. Hand-picked Gen X group journeys. Not tour buses. Not party chaos. Not rushed itineraries. Small groups. Intentional pacing. Culture. Conversation. Comfort. Come solo. Leave connected. This isn’t just booking travel. It’s building experiences for grown folks who know the difference. You in? Gen X knows how to travel solo without posting every moment for validation.
Here's what we do better than everyone else: We travel for the experience, not the content. We're not chasing the perfect shot for the algorithm. We're sitting at that café in Lisbon because the light is beautiful and the wine is good not because it'll get 500 likes. We remember what it's like to travel without needing to document every second. We know how to be alone without being lonely. We grew up as latchkey kids. We know the difference between solitude and isolation. Solo travel isn't something we had to learn from a TikTok tutorial, it's in our DNA. We're comfortable in our own presence, and that makes us better travelers. We value quality over quantity (and hype). We're not doing the 10-countries-in-14-days sprint. We're spending a week in one place, learning the rhythm of a neighborhood, finding the local spots, having real conversations. We'd rather have one incredible meal than five mediocre Instagram moments. We don't need an itinerary planned to the minute. We can wing it. We trust our instincts. We know how to ask locals for recommendations, read a room, pivot when something isn't working. We don't panic when plans change; we adapt. That's the superpower of growing up without GPS and Yelp. We can handle silence, boredom, and our own company. We're not afraid of a quiet dinner alone or a long train ride without scrolling. We don't need constant stimulation or someone to validate our choices. We're okay with just being. And that makes solo travel not just possible, but deeply fulfilling. Solo travel isn't a trend for Gen X. It's a return to who we've always been: independent, resourceful, and unbothered. Which of these resonates most with your travel style? Or what would you add to this list? Drop your thoughts below ☮️

Did you at least make some down time to spend it on the beach?
