Hi everyone! Happy New Year! Glad to be part of this community and I wish everyone the best in their journey, whether it's improving body composition, dealing with an autoimmune condition, or just wanting to learn how to eat like a human. A little about me and my journey: I was brought up eating my mom's home-cooked meals, rarely would I eat hyperprocessed nonsense, and yet I was a bit overweight in my teens. I bought into the whole "eat less, move more" approach, which ended up not working for me. Even though I exercised regularly and was somewhat careful with what I ate (or so I thought), I could not lose body fat. I thought I was doing something wrong. Over the years my weight fluctuated but I was never lean in my 20s and half my 30s. Finally, I stumbled upon keto about 3.5 years ago (at 35 years old) and decided to give it a try. Within 6 months I was down 40 pounds and felt the best I've ever felt. I was pretty much doing a ketovore approach (meat, seafood, fermented dairy, eggs, nonstarchy veggies, some nuts and dark chocolate here and there, and coffee), eating 18:6. It was so life-changing that I wanted to learn more about nutrition (and other things I may have been misled on throughout my life). I bought books, listened to podcasts, and after a while (around April 2024) I decided to cut out any plant material I was consuming and went full carnivore and have stayed strict ever since, thanks to Coach Stephen, Dr. Chaffee, Dr. Georgia Ede and many others that I listened to online. I wouldn't say I felt any better than I did before, but I believe I did make some mistakes with the transition to full carnivore. I was definitely undereating for my first year. My main issue was with sleep, waking up at 2am every night. I was eating around 1.5 to 2 pounds of fatty meat a day, which I understand now is not enough for me (6ft tall, 205 pounds). This past summer I increased my food intake and my sleep improved. However, after August I noticed something weird. My weight on the scale started going up. As of now, I'm around 225 pounds, and it's definitely not just muscle. I've added body fat and I'm afraid that I damaged my metabolism by undereating all that time, which caused my weight gain. So there is a lot that I still need to learn and I'm just going to push through and hope my body figures things out as time goes by and my body composition improves again.
