You want to crew on more boats, but skippers keep choosing someone else. It is not because you are not enthusiastic. It is because enthusiasm is not the same as value. Skippers are looking for crew who can step aboard and contribute immediately. Crew who know basic sail trim, can handle lines, move safely around the boat, and understand simple commands without constant coaching. The real cost is missed opportunities. Another season watching from the dock. Another race or cruise that could have built your experience. The confidence gap grows wider. You expected to be sailing regularly by now, but instead you are still trying to prove yourself every time you meet a new skipper. Start acting like a crew member before you get invited aboard. Learn the basic jobs on a sailboat. Practice knots until they are automatic. Study sail trim. Show up prepared and ready to help. That specificity is the whole lesson. The detail you put in directly determines what you get back. Most people skip the detail and wonder why AI keeps missing the mark.
