Need Help Connecting Pinecone to Voiceflow – Input Works, Output Doesn’t Return
Hi everyone, I’m trying to integrate Pinecone with Voiceflow and running into a snag. I’ve attempted two approaches: Using the Function Block in Voiceflow I created a custom function to send user input and conversation history to Pinecone. The input reaches Pinecone successfully, but the output doesn’t return to Voiceflow. I’ve double-checked the input/output variable mappings and API key setup, but still no luck. Middleware API Setup I built a REST API to act as a bridge between Voiceflow and Pinecone. Voiceflow sends the request to my endpoint, which forwards it to Pinecone and is supposed to return the assistant’s reply. However, I’m struggling with the correct configuration to ensure the response flows back into Voiceflow properly. Has anyone successfully set this up? Overview I'm building an SMS reminder system using Twilio in n8n where agents receive reminders about missing documents for multiple properties. When agents reply via SMS, I cannot identify which property/conversation the reply is referring to because the Message SID changes with each message, breaking conversation continuity. Business Context - Real estate agents manage multiple properties simultaneously - Agents receive SMS reminders about missing documents for different properties - A single agent can be reminded about 3-5+ properties in the same day - When an agent replies "I'll send it tomorrow", I need to know: Which property are they referring to? Current Workflow Outbound SMS Flow (Working) 1. n8n identifies properties with missing documents 2. HTTP Request node sends SMS via Twilio API to agent 3. SMS content: "Hi [Agent], missing documents for [Property Address]. Please upload by [Date]." 4. Twilio returns Message SID (e.g., SM123abc...) 5. Message SID stored in database/Google Sheets Inbound SMS Flow (Broken) 1. Agent replies: "I'll send the documents tonight" 2. Twilio webhook triggers n8n with new Message SID (e.g., SM456def...) 3. Problem: New Message SID has no relationship to original outbound Message SID 4. Cannot determine: Which property reminder is this reply for? Attempt : Phone Number Only - Match based on agent phone number alone - Failed: Doesn't work when agent has multiple pending properties Ideal Solution Criteria - Automatically link SMS replies to specific property reminders - Work reliably even with multiple pending reminders - Minimal friction for agents (simple reply, not complex codes) - Scalable across hundreds of agents and properties - Maintain conversation history for audit trail
