Can power dynamics be solved or settled?
Our current corporate and political world seems to act as though the power game is something that can be won. But world history tells us a different story. The Daodejing (Tao Te Ching) suggests that power dynamics require negotiation, flexibility, and adaptability to constantly changing circumstances. That entrenched power becomes inflexible and hard, which is vulnerable to the agile and soft. What do you think? Join the Kinship Cafe discussion this Friday or Sunday as we explore power dynamics from chapter 36 of the Daodejing (Tao Te Ching). https://www.kinship.cafe Online this Friday at 7am PT: Link is in our Calendar section. In-Person this Sunday at 9am PT. Location: Hilltop Spiritual Center, 331 E Elder St., Fallbrook, CA 92028

Jim, your question made me think of Chapter 36. It says that to weaken something, you first let it become strong — because strength contains the seed of its own reversal. Power dynamics aren't solved. They're cycled through. The real skill is in seeing which phase you're in, and knowing when to yield.
What would society look like if the government took a less active role?
The Daodejing (Tao Te Ching) suggests that humanity would flourish in a way that reminds me of the Hobbits in The Lord of the Rings. Small hamlets of people working together to provide for food and enjoying the simple things that life has to offer. What do you think? Join the Kinship Cafe discussion this Friday as we explore the perspective on life and government from chapter 32 of the Daodejing (Tao Te Ching). @Jim Jones Thank you, Jim. It's refreshing to find a shared interpretation. The ocean/river valleys metaphor from the text itself really seems to capture that balance perfectly. Wishing you and the group a very insightful discussion tomorrow.
