What You Listen To Shows Up in Your Beats
Something Jug said on the live tonight really stuck with me â about how a lot of music just doesnât sound in tune, or instruments and sounds donât sit right in the track. I donât think thatâs always a technical issue. I think part of it comes down to what weâre actually listening to outside creating. One thing thatâs helped me a lot is studying producers. On Don Cannonâs TMRO networkđ https://www.youtube.com/@TmrONetwork He sits with producers does an interview them and has them rebuild one of their own classic records from scratch. Watching how they choose sounds, leave space, build energy without forcing it, and keep things simple but intentional completely changed how I think about making beats. It made me realize a lot of âoffâ music isnât about bad plugins or bad gear â itâs about taste, and taste comes from listening deeply, not just creating. Good music usually starts with good listening. Curious what yâall are listening to intentionally thatâs shaping the music youâre making. For me I grew up on old school R&B from the late 60's to 2000 and that helps me pick samples. Producers like JustBlaze, ArkatechBeatz, No I.D., Kanye, Pharell, the J.U.S.T.I.C.E League and a few others helps shape the sound I make today.
