I have to agree with Roger on this one. Everyone has potential, what applicants need to show is they are prepared to survive and succeed in the fire service, and achieve their potential.
What was, or is, the HARDEST Part of Becoming a Firefighter for you?
Was it or is it: - The written test? - CPAT? - Interview? - Waiting for a call? - Balancing life + prep? Drop your answer below 👇Your answer might help someone else who’s struggling right now.

I think the hardest component is the CPAT. The CPAT is not about simple physical fitness but is all about functional fitness. The difference is endurance versus strength. The test strings together multiple job skills that work together to rob simple physical strength quickly. To be successful, requires technique and efficiency of movement. Physical strength is required but needs to be augmented with strong cardio endurance. Take advantage of all provided testing orientation and practice sessions to perform self evaluation and identify your strengths and weaknesses. Train with the idea that the test is not simply individual testing stations, but a series of high intensity segments that combine into a marathon.
