I saved a lot of time last week at Lowes with a personal AI bot I made just for me. It records things I need to buy when I think of it and reminds me when I'm at the store. I was in the middle of a project and realized I needed more wood screws next time I went to the hardware store. Normally that's the kind of thing I forget to write down, then completely blank on when I'm actually standing in the aisle. But now can send a text message to my personal AI assistant, so when I got to Lowes I just asked my bot what was on the hardware list. The thing about building your own tools is they work exactly how you need without some fancy new app. The concept is really simple. I text a message to my bot, and it figures out what I mean and updates the right Google spreadsheet. Shopping reminders go in one place. When I'm standing in a store, I just ask what's on my list for that type of store and it tells me. What I didn't expect was how natural it would feel to actually use it. I don't want another app. I just want to send a text message. This one stuck because the friction is basically zero. The thought comes into my head, I send a text, it's captured. And honestly? Building it was just fun. Still in that phase where something clicks and you feel unreasonably proud of yourself. If you've built something like this, I'd love to hear about it.
