Wesleyan Head Coach Advice
Just worked the Red and Black camp at Wesleyan this weekend a few key points: One thing not caught on the video: have a resume! "If you don't tell us you are into church, you started a non profit, you do chess club, we won't know that. Resumes give us a ton of background that can be a huge help on admissions processes"

I found that quote from Hurley really thought provoking and fascinating regarding "recruiting" parents (or not) around team-first mentality.

You've got to ask
One of the biggest skill gaps I see in players is the discomfort in asking for what they want. In k-12 education, a lot of your needs are taken care of by adults in your life i.e. coaches, teachers, parents whose jobs are, developmentally, to cater and anticipate your needs. But, with college and the adult world, you need to be the one who is doing the asking. What is the quickest way to see if a boss or a coach is interested in recruiting you? Ask. "OK but how?" You say, "Coach, NOT SURE IF YOU MIGHT BE INTERESTED OR NOT BUT....(insert request)" Asking works better when you give the person you're requesting something from an easy out. By saying, you're not sure, that is the off ramp if they need one. But, before you use a script, you need to fundamentally come to the conclusion that all things being equal, the player or the student who knows how to ask for things and DOES ask for them, even if imperfectly so, is more likely to get them than the kid that doesn't ask.

I found this really thought provoking and even moving, a tweet from "the Sport Parent" - <<It's never healthy when a kid's victory becomes a parent or coach's validation. Our role as a leader is much more significant than an outcome. Focus on who they are becoming not just on what they are doing and achieving.>> Our role as a leader is much more significant than an outcome ... Gotta remember that!
Just went through the process
Brendan, I appreciate you putting this together. My son just went through the recruiting process and will be longsnapping at Brown as a freshman in the fall. If I can be a resource to anyone, please feel free to reach out. Anthony

Still and yet there's big differences within these leagues, no? Going to Dartmouth is quite a different experience, imho, academically and socially, versus, say, Columbia. Even bigger culture and other swings in Nescac and Patriot I believe. Gotta be hard to navigate that when u lose some control bcs of the randomness of who needs which kind of player any given year.
