Hiya friends! I’m Kendi, but my close friends call me Queen. I’m from Spotsylvania, Virginia. I’m currently a part-time barista who loves Korean café culture (and I’m hoping to visit Korea one day), and an entrepreneur who started her own micro home bakery—struggling a bit, but working through it. I used to dislike coffee so much that I couldn’t even stand the smell until I started working as a barista, so I guess in a way I became a coffee lover. Funny, right? 😂 Right now, I’m in the dreaming and research stage of my journey. I want to learn everything I need to know—not only to achieve my dream, but to be successful, avoid being taken advantage of, and most importantly, create an amazing experience for my customers. For me, it’s not just about the products; it’s about the experience—from the moment someone sees the shop and walks in, to the moment they leave. It’s about the memories. My dream coffee shop is a bakery café serving handcrafted drinks, fresh food, and desserts. The space would be thoughtfully themed, blending my Kenyan culture with the calming, minimalist influence of Korean and Japanese cafés. It would be warm, welcoming, and intentional—a place where people can unwind, enjoy quality treats, and feel at home. My biggest question right now is: What do I need to learn to be a successful café owner while avoiding burnout? Lastly, as for when I hope to make this dream a reality, I’d say within 1–3 years. At the same time, I trust that in God’s timing, it will all come together.
