My rendition of Mt. Talbot
Although this is not complete, I thought this might be my last chance to post a painting. This work is on paper. The paper is primed with latex paint and my own homemade gesso. It is a composition of 2 of Sam’s compilations of Mount Talbot. I have not started the final highlights and details yet, especially in the water. My own critique is that sky is way to blue and not enough shadows/contrast in the rocks. (The light is coming from the right.) Also maybe too much repetition in the rocks on the left. As usual, I would appreciate some constructive feedback.

I agree with you, the rocks on the left, their size and number. A simple fix is just combine a few smaller rocks into single larger ones, especially up front, and scale the sizes as you recede. I’ve been using gessoed acrylic paper too. I find that three thin coats works well. I lightly sand with 400 paper after each coat to knock down the tiny hairs that the gesso brings up.
Another palette knife experiment
This is about 95% palette knife painted. 11'x14" oil on arches oil paper.

Looks like a successful experiment. Appears you have pallet knife skills. Like what you did.
This Community is Closing — Here's What's Next
Hey everyone, I wanted to let you know that I'll be closing this community shortly. I've been running this free community for over two years, and I'm grateful to everyone who's been part of it. Alongside this, I've been teaching inside Sam's Landscape Painting School, where a few months ago I extended the live painting classes to a full two hours every Monday NZ time (Sunday USA) on Zoom. Moving forward, I want to focus all my energy on Sam's Landscape Painting School and the students within it. If you've been thinking about joining, now is a great time — right now there's a FREE 7-day trial available until Monday 25th May. You can find out more here: https://go.samuelearp.com/landscape-painting-school If you've previously purchased any products or membership access through this group, I'll be reaching out to you personally with something special. Thanks for being part of this community. I hope to see some of you inside Sam's Landscape Painting School. Happy painting Sam

It is unfortunate that the painting group will stop, but I understand that everyone needs to build their future. I’m certain that keeping the sharing group running as smoothly as it does takes some effort and for that I thank you. I’m hoping that in the painting school a similar sharing concept will exist.
Artists Palette Death Valley 2
The first pic is the final. Tried to combine the source pics to create a scene looking from a different direction. Spent a lot of time with the sky … clouds vs no clouds ( they’re not the subject) so ended up with whispering clouds just enough to bring the eye back into scene. I included the people to help give a sense of how immense the area actually is. Quite remarkable the mineral deposits, from snow capped mountains to dry salt basins. A fun painting.

37 Art Tips for a Successful Landscape Painting Journey
Hey Artists I put together a blog post a while back that I still think is one of the most useful things on my site, 37 landscape painting tips drawn from my own experience over the years. It covers everything from colour mixing and tonal values to composition and brushwork. If you're just getting started, it'll give you a solid foundation. If you've been painting for a while, you'll probably still find a few things worth thinking about. You can read it here: https://samuelearp.com/blog/landscape-painting-tips/ Happy painting, Sam P.S. If you want to go deeper on this with live weekly painting classes, take a look at Sam's Landscape Painting School here: https://go.samuelearp.com/landscape-painting-school

Sam thanks. Sums up a lot of important information in a quick guide. I’ve had this posting for some time and often refer back to it. Especially when planning a new composition where many choices are to be made.

Now retired, I have the time to have fun creating art. Started many years ago with watercolor. But moved to acrylics which I now enjoy.
