Author First Mentality
Hi all! I wanted to officially introduce myself. I’m Kate 👋 I work at Book Launchers as a Process Expert, and I’m part of the team that runs this group. Day to day, I’m deep in the actual publishing work like managing project timelines, editing stages, layout, covers, distribution setup, and answering a lot of “is this normal?” emails from our incredible Book Launchers authors. One thing I’m especially passionate about is an author-first mentality, particularly when it comes to rights. In 2020, I got the rights back to my first published series and immediately went scouring the internet for what to do next… and found very little. Not many authors were talking openly about rights reversion, either out of fear of “bashing” traditional publishing or simply because they didn’t know much about it. So I took charge and documented my own process in my first nonfiction (and first self-published) book, Take Back Your Book. Somewhere along the way, I caught the self-publishing bug and have since reverted all 12 of my traditionally published titles. A lot of authors don’t realize what rights they still have, what they signed away, or what options exist later, and that knowledge gap can really limit long-term careers. That’s where I come in. I’m always happy to answer questions about publishing contracts (though I'm not a lawyer!) or the rights reversion process and help you think through your options. Happy publishing!

@Gary Anderson I agree with Kevin. As this was done at work, I'd definitely look back to any contracts or paperwork that was signed regarding work done while employed.

I’ve been part of some internal conversations lately around book launches, and I’d love to bring you all into it. If you have a book landing page for an upcoming launch (or one in progress), drop the link in the comments 👇 Seeing real examples is incredibly helpful, and this is a great chance to learn from each other.

I just wanted to share this because I still find it incredible.
Three months ago, I published my book without high expectations; I only hoped a few people would read it. But life surprised me. Now I'm earning around $2,000 a week from it, and I'm still so thrilled because I remember how hard it was to earn even a few dollars. It's amazing how something you create can suddenly change your life. For those of you who have already launched a project... Have you ever experienced such rapid success?

Wow! Congrats on your achievements! This is awesome news.
What are you focusing on at the end of the year?
As we head into the next few weeks, I’m curious...how are you approaching this stretch of time? Are you moving forward with any publishing goals, or giving yourself a well-earned reset and refresh? I’d love to hear what this season looks like for you. 🎆

Cool Goodreads Signature
Heh. I just got an email from someone and they have a dynamic Goodreads email signature which shows what they're currently reading! That's pretty cool. Anyone else use one of those?
