LOVING the engagement on the "Rants and Raves"--let's keep that going! And congrats to @Raye Mckinney for knocking that challenge out of the park! If you have wins that we can celebrate with you, or challenges where you could use support, please share. You're not alone. That's the point of all of this right? Starting next week, I will be starting a LIVE Q & A Session!! This will be a bi-weekly free event, and since our community's availability is a little scattered (unsurprisingly), I am going to host 1 in the morning and one in the evening, in an attempt to make these accessible. Our first one will be Tuesday morning (July 14) from 9-10am CST. If you're planning to come, PLEASE send me a DM with your question ahead of time so I can get prepped and offer my best support! Also, for everyone I've spoken to about working on additional resources for additional financial accessibility, I want to share that we're getting VERY close. If any of these sound beneficial for you, feel free to grab a time in my schedule next week and I'd be happy to share more details!

We're gonna keep it real. I love a good engagement strategy, but right now it feels like we might need this more: "RANTS AND RAVES" Challenge: Each day this week, make a post that either allows you to get something off your chest (rant) or express a huge win or gratitude moment (rave). Heck, maybe both. Nothing kicks us out of feeling ragey quite like remembering what we have that's working out for us. Do this each day + fill out the pinned availability form=free strategy call-->send me a DM on Friday to claim yours! I think we all have a lot of rants we can make about the system we currently inhabit, so let's remember to punch up. I don't think I would have any reason to believe anyone would call out someone personally in here, but just in case.

Hey friends, So I have to be brutally honest with you...my healing is not going as expected after the ACL/meniscus surgery that I had on May 29th. I wound up in the hospital as some of you know and the surgery provoked a DVT, which has led to a myriad of other complications. This is not a message to say I'm giving up on this space. But I am having to be very honest with myself about my time boundaries and protecting them. So far, it has been a challenge to generate engagement/feedback from people and that makes it challenging to create/develop this community in a way that fits your needs. Save for a few engaged members, I often feel like I'm shouting into the void. I truly believe we all could benefit so much from the support and connection of this space, so I'm wanting to get curious about what might be stopping us and put on my detective hat to see if we can sleuth it out. But--just like coaching--it only works if ya'll meet me half-way. Because right now, my health can't afford for me to be giving my time and energy to the things people DON'T want/need. So, I would like you all to consider: 1. Would you like this community to continue and (if so) what would you personally need to encourage weekly/daily engagement? 2. What were your initial reasons for joining? What were you hoping to get out of the Queer Career Reinvention Lab free community? You can feel free to send these responses in a DM or we can start a conversation in the comments. After a decade of teaching in higher ed, I know one cannot improve unless they are willing to hear and learn from constructive criticism. This community is only a little over a month old, so ya'll are joining me in the building blocks stage and NOW is the time to practice speaking our needs and put your own building block into the foundation. I'm attaching one of the tips I recorded while I was in the hospital. Just remember, while overcoming powerlessness, it helps to use your limited energy wisely.

Prompt: What’s one way you’ve been performing professionalism instead of being yourself? I'm thinking we might keep these more consistent, because if you haven't noticed, these are SUPER quick ways for ya'll to connect and share experiences--liking/commenting gets you points to get higher on the leaderboard! So I know the week I was in the hospital, we got a little off that schedule, and I want to get us back on track. If you're feeling "behind"...please don't! Or, from a coaching perspective, challenge yourself to think about why that story is coming up for you. Let me set the record (anything but 😉) straight: Any queer professional can join this community at any time. You're never too late. If you start checking out posts/supporting your fellow community members today, that's perfect. If you want a suggestion, find 30 min somewhere in your day that you usually doomscroll (c'mon...be honest...) and replace that with popping in to the community chat. That's it. As we continue to grow, we'll be starting some regular virtual Q&A sessions and meetups as well. That said, lets welcome our new members @Winter Valdez , @Brian Duncan, @Rachel Rickman, and @Elle Waters!! 🎉 I will send more in a DM, but please feel free to put up your intro post and fill out the availability poll (PLEASE and thaank you!) As of right now, I only have 3 responses, but as the professionals say: "Fuck it, we'll do it live!" 🤣 I've got something special planned for tomorrow @10am CST (and since I know we're hoping for and evening live session as well, please comment below a few times @Garrett Rathbun @Raye Mckinney ). Without giving too much away, I will say, if you are actively interviewing, this workshop is for you! As a matter of fact, if you know this is you, please send me a DM with the job description for the specific position you're interviewing for and I'll give you the first steps of the process to get a jump on it!

I was joking on a call with @Garrett Rathbun about how when I first started making content about being a queer career coach, I found myself feeling uneasy about swearing, even though I was raised by a mom who swears like a sailor and I personally don't find anything wrong with it. I realized as I continued down this path that the uneasiness was years of programming from capitalist, heteronormative "professionalism" standards of what is or is not appropriate. Well, as I said on the call--and just sent out to all of you in an email--I no longer give a fuck 🤣 about what old white men (read: the founders of the "ideals" of professionalism) consider appropriate.

@Raye Mckinney ugh, I hate that so much for you! Is there anything on the horizon that might be in a more accepting organization?
