This past weekend, I traveled to Arkansas to celebrate my uncle's 85th birthday. We had a wonderful time, but coming home was another story! Greyhound and I had another episode! Our driver decided to stay at the rest stop ten minutes longer than he should have, which caused us to miss our connecting bus in Toledo by FIVE minutes! The next bus was not leaving for another six hours and twenty minutes. Now, y'all know I was not about to sit in that bus station all that time! I checked Uber, and the ride home was $85. I started talking to another lady who was also going to Detroit, and we decided to split the fare. Just like that, I found another way home! I was so glad to get home. I decided to get some work done, opened my laptop, and discovered the screen was cracked! I took it to the repair shop, and the gentleman told me it should be ready the next day. Well, when I called the next day, he informed me that the replacement screen he had did not work, and now he has to order another one. Hopefully, I will have my laptop back by Friday. Almost everything I use to operate my business is on that laptop! So here I am, working from my tablet. It takes longer, and some things are more difficult, but I am still finding ways to get things done. This experience has taught me something important about teaching AI and running a business. You need a backup plan! What happens if your laptop stops working an hour before your presentation? What if you have a class scheduled and suddenly cannot access the equipment you normally use? I have been stalled for a few days, but I cannot allow a broken laptop to stop everything I am building. I am learning in this season that sometimes you have to think fast, make adjustments, and work with what you have until you can get back to what you are accustomed to using. So, I wanted to share that with my Ruby Girl AI Academy family. Have you ever had something happen that forced you to change your plans immediately? How did you handle it?
