Where to start?
The blank page, an intimidating void that can suck you in and leave you feeling listless. Trying to find an idea to just start can leave you abandoning your sketch book before you even start. Luckily for us in the age of social media we have a plethora of accounts that can provide prompts. Inktober is my favorite. In 2018 my husband got him and me sketchbooks for Christmas. Inside the cover he wrote the prompts for Inktober. We started sketching in January of 2019. When we finished the prompts, we used several previous years of Inktober to keep us going. By May we started making our own prompts. We started Listen, Enjoy, Create. We picked songs that we liked, listened to them together, them made some art. This helped me not only get into an art practice but helped me find my voice. I love drawing nature and man made light. My art is night and day.

It's okay to be bad at art.
People always talk to me about talent. They think I woke up one day and was just good at art. Nope! I had to try hard. I sucked at drawing. My perspective was horrible. I still get anxious if I have to draw a room, a building, or a cup in space, but I kept trying. I showed up every day and tried. Every day I got better. Then one day, I liked what I was drawing, really. It didn't look off. Is every drawing or painting a masterpiece? No, but more and more are. It's time to stop worrying if you are good enough, and just start out bad.
