This piece was $125... and I didn't buy it... FIND OUT WHY!
Not every piece is worth the time, the money and effort... even if it is good. Check out this latest piece I left behind. One for you @Kacie Scibilia

It definitely helped. Would you have considered that dresser if it had been an easy redo at that price point? Also, how much WOULD you have been willing to spend on that dresser in its current condition?

@Grant Difford perfect sense. Thank you!!
A subtle problem with a great piece (DO NOT BUY!)
Every project needs to start with a good piece, but now and then you can get left with a lemon... (Even me!). This drop leaf table is very desirable, especially in Oak, this one looks to be Mahogany at a glance. The structure is in tack, legs good, just need a sand and a finish, but the issue isn't obvious until you get low, and its one you can't fix without wrecking the table. Check out the video and let me know what you think?

Art Deco Mahogany Tall Boy with Emerald Bakelite Handles
A truly incredible example of an Art Deco Mahogany Tall Boy with Emerald Bakelite Handles in amazing condition. It has all the original handles in deep emerald green and the original mirrors and glass. It has been completely stripped and refinished on the outside to a rich satin finish and waxed. This is one of my favourite projects over the past 6 months as I nearly missed it. And nearly made the wrong resto decision. At first I thought it just needed oiling, but once I sanded one of the drawers I realised that there so so much more value. 1. Remove handles 2. Light sand 3. Oil 4. Wax 5. Handles back on $200 paid > $645 sold same day through FB Marketplace. 2 Hours work.

I look forward to being able to discern value. A lot of people can pick up an old dresser and flip it, but this shows that you understand the value not only of different types of furniture, but which piece needs a quick oiling vs those needing a full restoration. I can’t wait until I’m there!

Plant Stand Custom Projects
Upcycling doesn't have to be focused on a single piece. Recently I have been having fun using pieces of furniture and timber that didn't have any value, until... Top: A piece of 1930s Oak from and old bedhead Middle: Part of the leg of a Victorian Oak table that was damaged Bottom: Chunk of timber from a mates garage he was throwing away The top is screwed in and hidden, the bottom a 20mm dowel rod glued. Then stained. Maybe an hours work all up. Will sell for $145. There is so much creativity and potential profit in playing with pieces. What do you have lurking in your shed/garage?

She’s lovely!
The difference a finish can make - OIL
It never ceases to amaze me the difference each timber looks when it is stripped back and then treated. This is some vintage Mahogany that has been sanded and simply oiled with Linseed oil. It also shows that when you finish a piece to always try a small area first to ensure you are getting the outcome you expect.

How does the linseed oil application affect the wood when you go to stain it—or is it the finish?
