Congrats on your podium finish!! I did Muncie 70.3 in 2023 as my first 70.3 and I too wanted to race an olympic distance beforehand and I’m glad I did! I was most worried about the 70.3 swim distance….but I figured if I can complete the oly swim of 1.5km, then the 70.3 swim of 1.9km wouldn’t feel too bad. There are two oly distance races in June, Clear Lake and Leon’s Triathlon. (I’ve not done either, but I recommend Clear lake because it’s $90 verses $250😳) (TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS!? For those of you on the edge of your seats of what I did with my $25 gift card to the most expensive running store I’ve ever seen as an award for being the fastest 30-35 female to run 2.98 garmin miles in the rain….I turned that gift card into not one, but TWO pairs of socks! If I keep this up at a constant rate of 1.34 socks-per-race-run-miles…by the end of my planned 2026 race season I will have: 77 individual socks 38 water bottles 58 chick-fil-a sandwiches and negative 19 missing helmets godspeed

In your blog you mentioned how your neck and back were sore during IM Maryland due to training indoors without a helmet…man did that cause some déjà vu of Taupo 70.3WC!! That race was in December so all training rides were in my video game-pain cave (which weren’t many because idgaf about my time for that race) and trying to hold my bobble-head of a helmet up while in aero position was the absolute hardest part of the bike! Lesson learned the hard way. After dabbling in swimrun last year I learned a top secret tip to help keep your shoes drier for those trail runs that have rain or water crossings where soaked feet is inevitable. Drill like 3-5 small holes in the forefoot of your trail shoe so water is able to drain. It’s batshit crazy but it works.😂 Your 50k with only 1 blister has inspired me to upgrade my sock game before my upcoming marathon🙏 Double decker couch, 10 out of 10. No notes. Race cancellation depression is starting to kick in😫. Unlucky for me, Ben booked a nonrefundable hotel…which means we’ll be spending a rainy and non-running related weekend in Carmel.🎉 So If you’re interested to hear about my new weekend plans, I guess on Saturday morning you can find me sobbing into a hotel waffle and tracking what better be a tornado or hurricane that wrecked my fun. (with no medal, PR, or banana) 😆
