I have a list of artists I discover on my instagram feed. I see a pattern, a thing that connects each and every one of them. here it is. it can be anyone. truly.....who pops off for sure relies on a mix of work ethic, talent, and context. it just seems to be a perfect mix of context, brand, and authenticity. forget adding brand. I feel like in music, authenticity IS the brand. so much of what makes a person unique isn't that they are for some reason better than others. it is that their relatabliliy is undeniable, in that they seem to be the one thing that their supposed to be. themselves. something to also look for is how they carry themselves on their instagram pages. lots of what you see is very identifiable to a degree. something that works, they do more of. on one side, the over production of a reel works for this person, and on the other side, the casual put up your phone and press record, works for the other. but each method works for the specific person based on their style.
