I'm a little bit confused!
Good afternoon, or morning everyone. I don't post here at all often but when I get the chance I love to read the posts from others, and enjoy the sense of community. To be transparent, I have recently been diagnosed with AuDHD. I don't think it's recognised in the US and has only been recognised here in the UK fairly recently. It's a combination of autism and ADHD. It's been helpful to have the diagnosis in order to understand my learning style, what I struggle with and what I don't. I say this because I may ask a question that is totally obvious to everyone else, or of no consequence whatsoever, so hope you will bear with me. I started TRE and went through the mastering section. It took me for ever due to various circumstances. In that time it was changed. So it threw a bit of a spanner in my works, but I've dealt with that. I have gone on to the mixing course, which has not taken me half so long, but that has also changed while I've been going through it. This has caused me some confusion since I like to get everything in the right order or I can't learn. Thankfully, I write notes on everything so I can refer back to the old program whilst going through the new one. The old course does not exist any longer as has been replaced by the new. The new course has some improvements, though I'm still learning the concepts. There is something I am a little bit confused about and forgive me if it really isn't a thing, but I can't quite understand it in my neurodivergent brain and maybe somebody would clarify it for me. The old method (according to my written notes, as it is no longer on line), starts off by defining mixing, bouncing files ready for a mix, and setting up a session. The new one starts with editing. Not a bad thing, since editing does come before mixing. Then it goes into frequencies, dynamic and other tools, and lots of exercises in between. On section 14 it enters the foundation first method. It appears that at this stage the organising and set up of the session becomes a thing. My question is, did it come before then, and if so, where did I miss it? I have to be organised in order to make sense of things but I want to do the course in the right order. Is there a lesson before then that goes into the organisation details? My question is not how to organise, as I know how to do that, but where did I miss the lesson on it if it came before section 14? And if I didn't miss it, how did people go on doing all of those exercises without doing it and why didn't it come before? I know this may sound a little pedantic to normal thinking people.
Help!
So I'm really struggling and wondering if there is anyone who has time to "uncomplicate" a few things for me in realtime? The whole LUFS, VU and peak stuff is starting to overwhelm me. I first remember seeing it mentioned when Jake used to do the mixes. But he would only normalise gain. His mixes sounded awesome, and as far as I can remember he didn't go into all the metering. He simply made sure nothing clipped above -10, then carried on with his volume balance. I was learning this way for years but it feels like everything has changed. Now it seems it's essential to use the meters etc. So was Jake doing it wrong all this time, or am I just really missing something? I really feel lost and would like some simple guidance. Ideally just one or maybe two people because it seems nobody can really agree on anything when it comes to methods. I've been doing this for years! Hopefully someone can help me get at least one decent mix to my name? I don't want to give up, but it seems pointless trying to learn when the structure keeps changing! I have a mix that I am currently going through but I only get as far as listening on replay these days! I try and follow along with the tutorials but everything seems so back-to-front when I delve into my own work. Then there are people saying plug-ins don't matter and stock is just as good, but when I ask a question about how to do something I get told to buy a million different plug-ins. Or when I try and follow a tutorial, and they have a plug-in I don't have, I then get told any plug of the same nature will do! It's like people don't want to help each other anymore and just want to make things a complicated as possible! PLEASE HELP! I'm from the UK if that helps also. There was a guy who said he'd be willing to Do like live meetings with me, that would have been awesome! But I haven't heard back from him recently and I have forgot his name! If you see this, is the offer still open?

Hi George, I came to the comments to look for something else but then I saw your post. I can't uncomplicate things for you, though I suspect that I understand why you think you may be losing your mind. You sound as if you have a very analytical approach, and I like that, as I also do. It's a very neurodivergent thing incidentally, and I am neurodivergent. Neurotypicals may not perhaps feel the same level of frustration. For people like myself, things may be confusing, but once understood, it's understood well and maybe beyond the norm. Hang on in there. Before I go further, I also am from the UK, have an accent not unlike Adele, but live in North Wales at the moment. I think you are fortunate in that you got some basis in the other method before it was changed. If you like working that way and it works for you, continue. The only problem is that in some tutorials when they start teaching using the other method it may be hard to follow along exactly. I may be wrong. As for me, I was only just getting into the base of the first method and putting it into practice, when it changed. So I am kind of halfway between both. Confusing. However, I did realise that there was a problem and shortcoming in the first method when it came to the low end, and I think that the new method is indeed better for this, so am taking a deep breath and going through it again, learning the new method. I did nevertheless retain all of my notes and learning from the old method, so I can use both. I take notes on everything, it's how I retain information. The main problem for me was recognising that there was a change. First of all my thoughts were 'wait, this seems to be different?' I thought I was losing my mind. I don't always get in the classroom and I know they said there was an updated session coming, but I didn't realise what it entailed. Once I realised the difference I've been working through it. The whole VU meter thing was not something I wanted to do, and was totally alienating but I have conceded to learn it, as I want that low end. The whole learning process you've already gone through is is tough but you've got this far and can certainly do the meters. They're not as scary as they look.
MP3s or Wavs?
Hi everybody, hope you're all doing ok! I've been going through my TRE stuff but have a little bit of a stumbling block. I've got it into my head that a reference track needs to be a WAV, but it seems that it needs to be a high quality MP3. I realise that the client needs to send a WAV for the mastering. Could anybody clarify? Love to all.
Imposter Syndrome is a real thing!
It seems that not many people share their stuff on here, or have not being doing so recently, and I guess it's just as well, as the feed would get clogged up very quickly. But I thought I'd share something anyway, since this video was eight years of so in the making! I filmed it some time ago and have recently done the track to it (Eva Cassidy version of Autumn Leaves). I sing it, I did the video, and I worked with a partner for the production and engineering as my studio is not entirely ready. Two of my children are in it, both the baby and the young man. It's on my new Youtube channel, which is another thing entirely to navigate. It would be wonderful to have your support. Imposter syndrome is a real thing! Thank you so much in advance! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UzicYd6lz3U

@Klaus Baedorf Thank you Klaus, I didn't see this as have been travelling the last few days. When life gets in the way it's hard to do music. As I'm sure that many people on the forum know! I'm doing a few recordings in the coming week, all being well. I will post the process afterwards. The videos will take a little while longer as it's the school holidays so I will do it in between everything. But really I need to learn so much from the forum and am in the process of trying doing things out. I love producing but engineering is a skill that takes me longer!
Our debut track is out.
I am happy to share with you my debut track.🙏❤️ https://youtu.be/RuecoPTauGI

I'm useless at being able to identify genres, much to my shame, but this track sounds very ethereal. I also love the 'behind the scenes' shots in the video. Well done!
