Hi! I'm joining from Washington state, and I'm here because I'm always looking to connect with other folks who prioritize nervous system safety over compliance. I have an 11 year old daughter whom I homeschool, and I've been a parent coach for 7 years, now shifting into homeschool coaching. One of the things that has been hardest in the past year is supporting my daughter through big changes while also maintaining my own life and personal identity. I feel like we're surfacing lately, though. It's got me feeling very optimistic!
Regulation Starts in the Body 💚
Most parents try to talk their child out of big feelings. But a dysregulated brain can’t hear logic. Start with the body - that’s where calm begins. 💚

Truth! I've lost track of how many times I've guided parents to take a step back and focus on regulation before trying to talk to their child about what's happening. A common thread that I've noticed, especially when big feelings are accompanied by challenging behaviors, is that we feel like we need to correct the behavior when it's happening. The trouble is exactly what you said - a dysregulated brain can't hear logic. We aren't missing an opportunity by helping them regulate first; we're creating an opportunity to have a meaningful conversation about it.
