How The area you are based out of effects your business?
Just really curious to know what your take is. For those who are in warm climates and population densed areas, how much easier it is ( or harder if you think) to start a coating business? I am in Canada and realistically, the open window for doing just garage floors is about 6 months, anything beyond that is obviously doable, but not sure if it's worth the headache. Plus on top of that the place I'm in is low population, despite all of this I know from working at least one season with someone else( not on my own ) that there's enough demand to stay somewhat busy, but I can see how a lot of people are not even ready for this kind of flooring say inside the houses on wood subfloor ( which could get work year round in that case ), is it just me thinking myself out of it or would you say it's easier to move to 1 mil + people city and do it there?

I'm going to lean on my background in franchising and tell you definitively larger population markets create significantly more opportunity for wins than small markets do. There is definitely more competition, but that also in an indicator of just how strong a market may be- lots of competition = lots of work. The discipline you will have to master in a large market is marketing. In a smaller market, you may be the only game in town and word of mouth works. In a big market, you will likely need to invest into a regular and ongoing marketing effort to produce the return you want. Overall, I'd choose a mid to large market any day of the week over a small one IF your goal is to scale beyond a one man/crew business which is essentially just a job that you own.

@Alvis Ciritis it all comes down to what you want. If your desire is to have a business that you can wrap both arms around, you can do that in virtually any size market. But if your desire is to scale, small markets make scaling far more difficult. You may have to travel further, for instance, to get the volume of work you need to keep more crews busy. Large markets offer scalability right there in your back yard!

I do like a good matte finish inside. Very classy look. But I do like a nice shine in the garage!

The biggest thing we see with spray on coatings is a need to really follow the TDS in terms of return to service. We sell a sol gel (technically a urethane) product that produces a very hard surface, but return to service is 7 days unless an accelerant is used. If you move furniture back before that 7 day window, you will absolutely see scratches. I'd make sure you are following the TDS as closely as possible to get the result you want on the next job.

Joseph, your work is fantastic! I love it when contractors go the extra mile to do a job the right way!
Topcoat for studio
living in East Texas with this weather going so up and down… it is a 1000 sq ft store front storage unit, what is the best top cost to use for a very high traffic area with very little maintenance. It is indoors with a lot of natural light coming in for a photography studio. Some days you can have the garage door up taking photos , days with garage door down taking photos. And the sunlight hitting the floor more than 6 hours a day (wanting to make sure the sun doesn’t turn the floor yellow) advice on topcoat to use!
