Happy Friday, everyone!
Quick fun one: I had a chat with an ex-colleague from a big UK retailer whoโ€™s totally into 3D... but still sees it as a bit of a chore. The funny part? They also want everything done yesterday, and they know 3D could actually speed them up. So, are we all just secretly in the same boat here? Anyone else having these โ€œ3D is a lifesaver but also a bit of a fussโ€ conversations? with clients, peers etc??

I think it's a mix of the fashion industry being notorious for being slow to adopt new ways of working and unwillingness to spend some extra money/time/resources on something where the return on investment isn't yesterday ๐Ÿ˜‚. I have worked for and with companies that still don't digitize their patterns and rely on excel to make tech packs. How can they be ready to switch to development in 3D? And with budgets tightening and investors pressuring for instant profits, investing in new tech can be a hard sell to the C-suite. Even though those of us on the other side know that it is well worth it and will save on time and money. And don't get me started on the expectation that employees need to cover every job position. Designers need to create new product, source materials, build tech packs, specs and patterns plus do marketing and so much more and now they need to also learn 3D ๐Ÿ˜…. Companies want to save money by having a tight team where everyone does everything, but at the end of the day it results in no one being a master at anything. A dedicated 3D team is an investment in skills training and employment but then implementation can be smoother and more focused.
