@Lynne Phillips That sounds great. Re songs if haven't run across them, Google Scary Pockets. A session singer friend of mine sent me some their tracks as references once for a gig. They are a couple core players and guest artists that do some nice re-imagined versions of different types of songs. They might serve as some inspiration. Re Improv I think we can help there. Most of that at first when you're starting out is over coming fear or the equivalent of real time writers block! It sounds like technique is likely not a big problem. I have been working on answering some questions about fundamentals recently. We have a fair amount of people on here interested in the subject of improvisation so I'd like to get on to that. There is another thread about this, but for now, can you briefly tell me, describe roughly where you are with your improv? Are you okay with a bit of chord/fretboard harmony, any scales, chord progressions...??

@Kevin Henderson Great to have you on board Kevin! Let's get you playing. A first thing that we can look at is what type of music do you like, or more specifically would like to play? Did you see videos on the "Fret School Club channel" or did you get here through the "PlayableGuitar.com" channel? If you can give me a few song titles that you are interested in I can have a look and get us started. If another person or two would like to learn the same song(s) maybe we could all do a Google Meet session at some point and work together. Who knows maybe that could lead to "Song Club" within the community. I look froward to hearing from you! Feel free to Direct message me if you want. Again welcome!
On the subject of Improv
Okay so who is up for a little challenge? All levels. Wherever you are you can try this. Just learn the "natural" notes on the B string. That's the white key notes on a piano. No sharps (#'s) No flats (♭'s). Just BC D EF G A BC ... Any fingers, no hidden trip lines... just the B string 🤘😎 Good luck

Anyone still onboard now, just add the diatonic octave note (within the key in this case all white piano keys) that will fit on the D string for each of your triads. So if you have an F on the high E string add the F octave below on the D string. This should yield some more familiar and recognisable physical shapes. Analyse the harmonies you can get from each one of the shapes you arrive at. Any questions just give me a shout 😊

I hope ya'll had a nice Christmas! New Years coming...days getting brighter... Okay within only about 60 days of being indexed, we've had over100k views and well over 500 subscribers to the Fret School Club YT channel. Saying that the calls all seem to be coming from outside the house. This latest post on YT has a very close relationship to what we've been building. So I thought I'd post it here. https://youtu.be/7CIRoxANXhg?si=bbsliR0EYuO5B94- I'm happy to engage globally or by DM. I think anyone who has a go at this and gives a little time and attention will find it quite liberating! Happy playing
Voice leading
So how about a demo video with some ideas about voice leading like we were doing last night? I got the gist of it and want to start playing around with it and experimenting.

This has been up for a few weeks and is getting some positive responses on the FSC channel. Anybody here still interested in voice leading may find it of use. Again, feedback and questions make the world go round 😊 (I know the audio S#%@t!) https://youtu.be/8bAn72bPflk

Fret School Club YouYube Channel started
I'm still here... I just posted the first of weekly videos to be posted on the Fret School Club Youtube channel. Some of you can use these as mini courses if you use the timestamps and link libraries in the description section of the video to see related videos. For you more advanced guys you may want to look at : the beginning voice leading example https://youtu.be/1cozgsaU_WE (Years of Theory in 20 min) or the drop2 voicing exercise (3 Shapes all Chords All Keys ) https://youtu.be/8bAn72bPflk Let me know your thoughts about monthly live online meetings Still kicking 😅

@Lynne Phillips Great! I'm sure you'll make it sound better than the MIDI version! Let me know if you have any questions 😊

@Lynne Phillips 😂 I'm not worried at all ! 🤘
Improvisation for the Brave
I'm trying out a new "publishing" arrangement for two tracks. One with copyright licensing (not my tune) for commision and one "original composition". The latter being a contrafact from the changes to the song All of Me. Now, hands up, I am not a jazz player. I don't even play one on TV. (there's a pun there I think). This was just an excerpt from an online lesson on the subject of Secondary Dominants... BUT... to the few of you who've asked about playing over ('through' is a better word) changes, and the few that have embraced the "dog walk the dog..." and... "1625 blues"... you may want to have a look at this old video and PDF and the *description of this now UNlisted video. As a bonus there is a *link to all the drop 2 voicings we happened to be looking at in the last posting (3 Shapes All chord All keys) Let me know thoughts, questions or concerns. Happy playing! phew! long day!
